Was this a serious question?

It was serious.  I wasn't suggesting that I thought he deserved it.  I think Ryan Day seems like a great choice and he's already in place.  I was just interested to see if anyone thought Fickell was even in the consideration set.  I know his one year at the help produced a mediocre record.  But I don't think that was a fair test.  All sorts of stuff was happening then that created a lot of chaos.  His time at Cincinnati shows that he obviously knows how to coach.

Again, I am not suggesting Fickell should have been the next coach.  I'm just looking for message board discussion.  Ryan Day is a great choice as far as I'm concerned.

Although it is kind of surprising that Zach Smith didn't get a closer look. ;-)

Listening to cris Carter, sounds like he was told by everyone to quit a month ago. Urban wanted to finish the season so he wouldn’t quit on the players. Sounds like a lot of people thought he would die on the field if he kept going out there.

Hope he gets right and can live a happy life.

None of which is a surprise to me. He constantly looked to be in discomfort and in that one game, he even briefly collapsed. The way something looks isn't necessarily the way it is, but if you just go from the eye test watching games, hell, I might not have thought he'd die out there, but I could definitely imagine him getting carted off the field during a game.

He and his accomplishments will be missed. One fuck of a lot of winning during his tenure and you knew coming into every season (with the exception of the first, where they were ineligible for the postseason) they'd be a contender for a title. It's easy to get spoiled with that sort of success and be pissed because they didn't make the final four one year or lost in the playoffs another, but when you can say the team is a perennial contender, that's all you can realistically ask for. He had a great run; now it's time to rest up and get back to a position where it consistently looks like he's actually enjoying being alive.

While I don't think Fickell should be hired, I think he gets somewhat of a raw deal from fans. Yes, the team he coached for that year had talent, and no, that team wasn't going to win under those circumstances with just about any coach. He took one for the team, and should receive credit for doing so IMO. All that said, Day is the right choice.

As a fan...I appreciate the hell out of that. He’s a good dude...hell Stephen A just spoke good words of him and how he and Sagan just above everyone else for a long time and his career 90% winning and 3 championships

In other news...after wasting my time on Twitter....

What are the odds he coaches again in about 3 years?

What part of this is him not agreeing how that mess was handled by OSU and his 4 game suspension?

No one knows but him.  I hope that debacle doesn't cloud his memories of his time here.  It was a total joke and he unfortunately got caught up in it.  The whole thing was a result of a part of our society that is going terribly wrong.  It had nothing to do with him in my opinion.  Of course it is hard to feel too sorry for a guy pulling down >$5 million/year.

I just want to know how Matt Butler rates his haircut when it's finished!

Well how many players are jumping ship?  My guess is that anyone who has any draft stock at all will be gone.

That is usually the case anyways. Urban and the program has been open about players opting to leave early. Haskins has been gone for months. I doubt this changes the calculations for many.

I'm a fan of this move. The writing was on the wall. Ryan Day was going to get a boat load of money from other schools, so OSU had to move. Plus, it seems like it was the right time.

This sounds just like Stoops and Lincoln Riley last year at OU. We see how that is working now. Sounds like everyone is in lock step on the move and it seems like Urban is sticking around Columbus and the program.

I'm so glad I already booked my tickets to the Rose Bowl to catch Urban's last game.

There are probably a few that are leaving early because they were given a high draft grade, but I wouldn't call it 'jumping ship'....I'm pretty sure Haskins and Dre'Mont Jones will enter the draft, but other than that, maybe Fuller, Arnette, and Sheffield--and more than likely Weber.

I am pumped for Day to take over. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but I think he’s on the track to be a star.

I agree with wildcats20 in thinking that Ryan Day is going to be special.

On a side note: Anyone else think that is was strange that President Drake was nowhere to be found during the press conference?
