Easily the most shocking sports death of my life. I was never a fan of his game, but loved his drive and will to win. He seemed to have been a very genuine man off the court and each day that went by he seemed to grow into an incredible person.Ā
He had the infidelity, and that seemed to change him for the better. And for the better of everyone else through him. Damn.

The reactions of players from the early part of his career have really been tough to see. Duncan, Amare, Lebron, etc. Also, the text conversation with Shaq's kid.
It's got to be hard for Lebron after passing him last night and receiving his last tweet, never getting to talk to him again.

Might have to stay off Twitter for a bit. All the players talking about it is getting tough. I never liked the Lakers so I didn't care for him by association, but I still respected the hell out of him. It's always cool when these guys retire but stick around the game in one way or another. Some will coach or commentate but he was there front row teaching his daughter everything he could. The worst part - to me anyways - is the family who loses their loved ones. Can't imagine what they're going through.Ā

i can't help wonder if his "infideltiy" had happened now, what would be happening right now? With all this #Believewomen and #nomeansno nonsense i feel like we'd be seeing a different tune on twitter.Ā

all that said, he was clearly beloved by his peers, so i can't judge him any harsher than they would. Sad for his family and the other families for sure.

That's kind of how I feel. Never have liked the Lakers and never was a fan of him while in the league, but he seemed really passionate about the game and seemed really dedicated towards his family and teaching/talking about the sport to the degree that, after he retired from playing, I was finding myself coming around a bit and starting to become more of a fan of him for what he was and what he was doing.
