Wonder what kind of bad reception the Astros will still get.
And I’m assuming zero fans in stands?

posted by gutMy understanding is it normally takes 2-7 days, with an average of 5, before you start spreading the virus. The NFL plan was to test 3X per week, which is every other day. So, in theory, they should catch anyone before they're able to spread it.
But I imagine a few will slip through the cracks. Best case scenario is probably a handful of teams see a cluster of 5-6 guys once or twice and that would be it. That's still huge, though, if you lose 5 offensive starters for a couple of weeks. Another very possible scenario is it puts a couple of guys in the hospital and they lose 30 pounds...basically IR'd for the year.
I think this will be the deal breaker. And I hate to say it, but it kind of feels like a when, not if. Fortunately almost all the athletes have been fine. But there are young people getting very sick from it and even dying, although uncommon. Seems like odds are it could happen to a professional athlete and at that point people will be out.
Why couldn’t there be a few thousand fans?

The young people who get messed up are normally the ones who's immune systems are almost too strong. It doesn't look like healthy young people, over 18 anyway, have a greater resistance to contracting it. And 5-10% of them are still going to end-up in the hospital. If you do the math and assume 500 NFL players get this at some point, it's a decent bet a handful could end-up on a ventilator.
And I've seen a number of people mention that some NFL players are more at risk than other sports - obesity plus a higher prevalence of PED abuse.

At least. But maybe that doesn't bring in much, if any, profit after you take into account all the vendors, cleaners, etc you have to have to support it. And then the logistics to have fans safely at games maybe just isn't worth it.
I'm sure they could figure it out. Might just have too much on their plate already with player & team safety.
And imagine the outcry if they jack-up the average ticket price 5X (because supply & demand).
So 4 players have came out and said they arent playing 60 games.
Which 4 players?
I know Mike Leake and think I read Ian Desmond, too.
bumping this down because the timestamp issue. ignore this post.
And just like that......i care less about baseball.
Man talk about a sport that shot itself in the foot. Banning Pete, strike in 94, now this.
Looks like it's Leake, Desmond, Ryan Zimmerman, and Joe Ross that have opted out so far.
Damnit....Stanton just drilled one right back at Tanaka, right off his head. Scary AF. Hope he’s ok.

July 24th Opening Day vs the Tigers. I'd pay a lot of money to attend this game.
Opinion: The Texas Rangers’ team name must go.
