90-something. Too many 8's killed my score.

Yeah, definitely. Just keep playing, consistency will come and damage control will improve.

That isn't bad for Trout Club. It takes a while to find out where all the hidden hazards are. Lots of blind shots on that course especially on the back nine.

Yep, I wasn't too upset after not playing there since high school.

My hole-out for birdie was on hole 4. I hit my tee shot a little right, just into the trees, and then shanked my second shot, but at least got it out of the trees enough to have a shot over them. And, miraculously, hit the best shot of my life to sink it.

My other birdie was on hole 17. Had a great tee shot that put me about 155 yards out at the bottom of the fairway slope. Nailed my 8 iron to within a foot or so. Before my shot I was absolutely resigned to the fact that it was going in the pond, because there isn't much room for error on that shot if you go directly for the pin.

I was also able to figure out a major cause of my mishits, lifting my left foot on my backswing, so I've got something to consciously work on on my league round on Thursday. If I can limit that issue, I think I can shave a lot of strokes off my game. I typically have one bad putting hole per nine, but most of my strokes are lost recovering from mishits.

This picture was taken from where I took my shot. I highlighted the pin because it's a little hard to see.

It is good that you recognized a flaw and can work on it. Limit the three putts and you are on your way.

What kinda handicap do you guys have? Any scratch golfers on here? I don't think this has already been discussed in the thread.

I attempted to use an at called TheGrint for GPS capabilities. It also tracks your handicap for free. Well, I was on the 14th or 15th hole, tracking all of my tee shots and number of putts, along with my score. And the app closed and there was no record of any information I had entered. I was pretty pissed after that.

I use the Grint. But I’m bad at uploading. I don’t use it as I play, I just jot down what happened on the actual scorecard.

Currently, I’m at 6.5 on there.

Had I known it would be easy to lose progress, I would've been marking down on the scorecard. I was mainly using it during the round because of the GPS feature, it's nice having an aerial view of the hole with pretty accurate distances. Going forward I will be marking my putts on the scorecard as a backup just in case.

Typically it will pick back up where you left off. But maybe because it crashed or whatever, it lost all your data.

18 birdies is a decent app too. Tracks stats and what not. I haven’t used the GPS feature, but I’m sure it’s good.

I don’t have an official handicap because when I was in NC I was only able to play about 5 times a year. But before that move I had an 11, which was my best ever.

Im trying to get back to around that now that I’m back in Chicago and have a lot more playing partners. But I shot a 91 and 89 my first 2 rounds in Northern Michigan. Not great. Another round this Sunday should be a bit better gage as I’ll have 2 days at the range beforehand.

Anyone ever use something like this? I like that it tracks your shot distances.

Reading more of the reviews. As soon as you walk onto the green it asks you your total shots and number of putts for the hole. That's nice. I would be able to leave my phone in my bag the whole round and still get gps distances.

Thought about investing in a range finder? Easily took 1-3 shots off per round by knowing exact numbers.

That might be an investment for next year. They are significantly more expensive than the gps.

Definitely. This is one of the “budget” ones that came out this year. It’s actually received really good reviews too. $199

So will continued play and practice. I’m too old school for gps and range finders. Courses have markings for 150 and often 100/200.

That's not bad. I ended up pulling the trigger on the garmin watch. If I don't like it I should be able to sell it easily enough and recoup some money.

You luddite...

I just don’t think it’s necessary to know you are 172.4 yards away when you can look at the marker and know you are between 170-175. It’s the same club and how many know our 172.4 swing and then execute it. I just think they are completely unnecessary.
