At first I wanted these because a friend recommended. But she's also very into stuff like this and high end camping gear, and I didn't want to pay that much.

https://www.amazon.com/Eagle-Creek-Pack-Specter-Brilliant/dp/B00OY893Z2/ref=sr_1_10?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1533221673&sr=1-10&nodeID=15744041&psd=1&keywords=eagle+creek+packing+cube

So I just went with a cheaper version with good reviews.

But after getting the Away bag (which at first glance is rather small), I'm thinking the more compressable versions are the way to go. We'll see.

Any reco's for a decent set of hard-sided luggage that isn't outrageously expensive?

Let me know your thoughts, I'm starting to get really into the minimal travel. It's just SO MUCH easier. And if you buy the right gear (Merino shirts, etc) you can wash them in a sink and they don't smell. Takes < 5 min, dries in a few hours and you're set. Really cuts down on what you need to bring.

I remember you posting links in the past about high quality clothes for traveling.

I really want these pants. My friend has them for climbing, they are awesome.

Oh boy, welcome to wheelhouse. I work in the industry, so I'm usually able to get these for a discount, but I'm also more willing to pay the money for MiUSA with top notch construction and lifetime warranty that will last 10 yrs+. Most product you buy from Uniqlo/HM/Target, etc.. are built to last 1 -3 season of regular wear. In the end, I'm a big believer in buying quality pieces up front that last. Esp as I'm in my 30s and my style is pretty much set at this point.

So I have tried prob 10-15 different Merino shirts/brands and I'll highlight my favorites. Merino IMO is sooo far superior to cotton.

T-Shirts:

Mission Workshop Sector

These are a blend with Nylon which helps with durability and structure. They run a bit slim so I'd rec sizing up if you're planning on wearing as a standard t shirt replacement. As a base layer though, normal size is great. They're made in the USA, life time warranty, and quality/construction is top notch.

Outlier Ultrafine Merino Shirt

100% merino, but very fine so it's very soft. This shirt is amazing.

Outlier Runweight Merino

Lighter weight shirt than above, perfect for the summer. Does have a core of nylon/poly to help with the drape and structure as it's lighter weight. I just took one shirt to our warehouse in Bethlehem this last weekend and wore this shirt 3 days straight. Didn't smell.

Outlier also has wonderful button downs but are pricey at close to $200 a shirt. The AMB one I got from a vendor and fuck it's worth it.

Wool & Prince Button Downs

These are pretty great as well. I prefer the Outlier but these have significantly more options. Be warned to stay away from All White Merino, it is always to sheer too wear without an undershirt and then you're ruining the point of wool to begin with. Striped shirts with white may be ok.

One brand to steer clear of: Civic by Taylor Stitch. It's garbage merino, has a sheen to it that I hate and is a blend.

Seriously, after getting away from cotton it's very hard to go back.

Thanks for the list. I did a quick search before your reply and found the Wool & Prince site. Their shirts are a bit spendy, but look very nice.

Indeed, which is why I tend to not wear the shirts I already have.

I signed up for their emails, have yet to get a coupon. If they sent me a 15% off coupon I'd order, at minimum, two shirts (a button-down oxford and a t-shirt) immediately.

Well that is a bummer. I looked around the web for a discount code and came up empty.

Found this from their FAQs:

Do you offer discount codes, coupon codes, or have sales?

We price our products without the markup that you see at most other clothing companies. That way, you know you're getting a fair price, whenever you buy from us.

I'm just going to suck it up and order. The quality looks great, all reviews I've found are very good, I'm just generally cheap.

I hear ya there. It's a hard pill for sure, but very worth it IMO. Wool > Cotton, I'd be very surprised if after the first try on you had regrets. And if you do, should be easy enough to return.
