I know we have some Chicago area OC'ers. Where are best places to stay if you are going to Wrigley? Plan would be to drive to the hotel and then use public transit/Uber/Lyft for the weekend.

Easiest way is to take the Red or Purple line to the ball park.  I'd stay downtown near one of the El stops.

When I say "downtown", I mean Mag Mile/Michigan Ave area

We stayed at an Airbnb in Old Town when we went, and I really liked the location. We took the El to US Cellular and Wrigley while we were there.

Old town, Lincoln Park, lake view. All good places to stay. Would really recommend an air BnB. From all of those places you can get a $6-$10 uber. I’d recommend that over paying for a day pass of the train. But if you want the Chicago experience, take the trains.

I should have included some more information. I'm going with my wife who will not stay in an Airbnb. So it's definielty a hotel situation.

I'm sure S&L can confirm, but when I went and rode the train for the game it was a complete butt to nut cluster (was also during rush hour). So if you don't like being slammed together you may want to use uber.

That's good to know. Is it any better on a Saturday? I'd probably lean Uber/Lyft for the most part but a CTA day pass is like 10 bucks. Pretty economical way to get around.

CTA is fine to get around. You’ll be cramped in the train assuming it’s during a busy hour but it’s a 5-10 min ride, so it’s not that big of a deal.

But $10 for a day pass vs two $6-$10 Uber’s. I’d personally prefer the Uber’s and the straight shot to your location vs the train and it’s many uncertainties (delays, over crowding, homeless piss smell, etc.).

The El is completely fine for the game getting there. People show up all morning, so it won’t be packed (assuming you’re heading to Wrigleyville early to pregame? After the game, if you’re not hanging around, fuck the CTA. It’s wya too crowded, and you may have to wait a decent amount of time to get into a train.

Sorry but this isn’t true. The red line is jammed when there’s a game at wrigley. Commuters/people getting north for social events/cubs games = a jam packed red line from about 4-7pm.

I’m taking like noon. If you’re trying to pregame and be in wrigley all day. If it’s afternoon, 8am. We always go super early and never have an issue.

Oh yeah, if you’re going at noon it won’t be a problem at all. Pee smell might be higher.

I would assume we would want to get to Wrigleyville late morning (Saturday) and would probably hit a bar afrerwards regardless of whether we are Ubering or taking the train. Ultimately, transportation is the easy part. Either Uber/Lyft or train. It's moreso where are we going to stay? Leaving around lunch on a Friday from Toledo. Get to Chicago around 4 or 5. Check in somewhere. Dinner and drinks Friday night. All day in town Saturday. Check out, grab breakfast on Sunday and come home.

Like I said, look in the old town, streeterville, lakeview area. Plenty of nice hotels
