My vote is no, but I’m 50/50.  Pretty sad to see someone put their ego ahead of the good of the country.  His family and aides are responsible too.  But I don’t think he’s far enough gone to not fully understand the stakes and the reality.

I was leaning yes, but now that Schumer, Pelosi, and Obama have all told him to drop out, the writing seems to be on the wall. 

I do think so. And it is the first time the Democratic party will have shown a spine in about 15 yrs. Probably takes them from like a 35% - 50%% chance to 45% - 60%. Imo, probably flips the current landscape (which I firmly believe is being blown out of proportion in favor of Trump). But also probably needs to be done, as I think Biden, before all of this stuff became too public to continue to deny, was a shoe-in (most will disagree) to runaway with the electoral again -- so, it has had a massive effect on voters and needs addressed.

Kamala polls worse than Biden (not that it matters or you can trust polls). Serious question, outside of Californians, what is Gavin’s appeal? 

Just purely guessing. I'm not going to pretend I'm super knowledgeable about him. Age? Charisma? Fuck if I know.

Well he just signed into law that schools have the right to not inform parents if their child is transing. So, I'm not sure how well that will fly in the swing/battleground states.

As for Biden, he may get diagnosed as vaccine injured or long Covid, which would give him a perfectly good reason to drop out.

I'm sure 10s of people give a shit about that law. Trans anything, for or against, is well down my list of concerns.

I am not sure either way. I do think the Ds may have fucked themselves over by not "encouraging" to not run for re-election a bit earlier just due to how he's 81 and it's just common sense to not have someone that old (or 77 like Orange Man) in the presidency.

Because now, as things currently stand, they have three options.

1. The 81-year-old who followed up a horrible debate performance by getting COVID and now has a large section of his own party wanting him to step down.

2. The VP, who attempted to be P in 2020, but got only about 1% (give or take) of the D voters' support back then. And, for the life of me, I can't think of anything she's done in four years that would inspire anyone not in the "blue no matter who" boat to be enthusiastic about her chances against Trump.

3. Newsom or Michelle Obama or anyone else whom the rumor mill comes up with. None of whom had their hats in the ring previously or have been really been quoted as showing interest in being a replacement. When it's mid/late July and you'd not only have to deal with Trump's current "I done got shot and then posed for an epic pic of me bleeding and pumping my fist" advantage, the fact he's been campaigning and rallying for what feels like an eternity and the simple fact that if you are the replacement and you don't make an immediate HUGE splash, you're going to be so far behind you might as well call the race right now.

Yeah, I think the time left to campaign is the biggest detriment in the ability to get elected. But we've seen stranger things happen that blindsided just about everybody like Trump being elected. So I can see the possibility of something like that happening for the Dems.

Because the Republicans would hump that all over the place. Radio, corporate stations, newspapers, YouTube, etc. So much so that it would become one of the top five topics that people had shoved in their faces no matter what they do or where they look. Michigan, for example, would go so red as to appear black. I doubt it would change Wisconsin, but all the other battleground states for sure.
