Have not done any research on the topic, but I'd reckon is has a lot to do with common sense. "Team lost this pro-bowler corner and signed a scrub to replace him, so lets give them a pick. "se-alum;1596167 wrote:Basically the NFL has a secret formula they use to give picks based on FA lost vs FA signed.

Newest Walter Football mock has Manziel falling to Browns at 26.

I have seen quite a few mocks now that have the Browns taking Robinson (OT Auburn), and then Carr with the 26th pick. That would be a legit good line, but I can't stand picking Carr, especially in the first round. He is Weeden 2.0 imo.

No chance Manziel falls that far. I could see him falling into the mid teens and someone trading up for him but 26 is just absurd.

If the Texans and Jags pass up on QBs, I can def see one of the three QBs dropping that far.Rotinaj;1596529 wrote:No chance Manziel falls that far. I could see him falling into the mid teens and someone trading up for him but 26 is just absurd.

I'd rather not draft a QB in the first 3 rounds. None of those guys are any good.

I don't think we need a tackle after signing McQuistan who can play guard or tackle.
@GoChiefs I figured that's what he meant I was just curious if there was more to the comparison (i.e. since Quinn was a bust does he think Manziel will be a bust).

McQuistan is just a stop gap. I am not saying we should draft Robinson with the 4th pick, but he could be a legit tackle from day 1, and ultimately replace JT when he gets old. Mack/JT/Robinson would provide us with the best line in the North imo. It would also allow schwartz to move to guard. I def would take Robinson over Watkins.lhslep134;1596551 wrote:I don't think we need a tackle after signing McQuistan who can play guard or tackle.

IMO there's just not enough value in using the 4th overall pick on a lineman you won't be using at LT for a long time. I don't think I'd want Watkins at 4 either but I'd rather trade down and getting better value for #4 than taking Robinson, no matter how good he's going to be. You don't spend the 4th pick on a guy who's gonna play right tackle for 5+ years.

I agree with trading down, but I don't think trading down is going to be an option for most of the teams in the top 5 unfortunately. There is just too much talent this draft. Just think of the draft 2 years ago. Would you have rather traded up for T-Rich or drafted Khalil?

You could have listed just about any player at any position that wasn't a rb and I'd rather do that. Trading up for a fucking rb was just dumb.like_that;1596560 wrote:I agree with trading down, but I don't think trading down is going to be an option for most of the teams in the top 5 unfortunately. I only disagree because no 2 drafts are alike, both in talent and in lower teams wanting to move up.like_that;1596560 wrote:I agree with trading down, but I don't think trading down is going to be an option for most of the teams in the top 5 unfortunately. Do you think Robinson is good enough for teams to want to trade up for him? In this years draft, I do, especially if the top 3 picks are from among (in no order) Clowney, Bortles, Manziel, Bridgewater, or Watkins.

I'm ver bullish on Robinson. IMO he'll be the best Oline player in the league in a yr or two. He's in the Walter jones, pace, Ogden territory in terms if talent/nastiness.lhslep134;1596578 wrote:I only disagree because no 2 drafts are alike, both in talent and in teams lower wanting to move up.

I think teams feel the same way so I feel like if he's there at 4, we'll get better value by trading than drafting him to use at RT (not a very valuable position).Commander of Awesome;1596579 wrote:I'm ver bullish on Robinson. You want to trade down because the guy is being compared to hall of famers? (And not just on here... I've heard him compared to Pace before by guys in the league)lhslep134;1596631 wrote:I think teams feel the same way so I feel like if he's there at 4, we'll get better value by trading than drafting him to use at RT (not a very valuable position).
That makes no sense to me. If you have a guy that is likely to be a future hall of famer and also improves your roster instantly, why would you not do that? Not saying I want Robinson, but just trying to understand the reasoning behind it...

It just comes down to whether or not you want to draft a guy to play right tackle for the next 4-5 years? Not sure that's a position the Browns are in right now.Dr. KnOiTaLL;1596819 wrote:You want to trade down because the guy is being compared to hall of famers? (And not just on here... You may be right. I guess I just feel like it might be worth it to have one of the best offensive lines in football for the next 5 years when you already have Tate, Gordon, and Cameron under contract. What do I know though? I'm no GMse-alum;1596831 wrote:It just comes down to whether or not you want to draft a guy to play right tackle for the next 4-5 years? Because of value. We already have the best LT in football (a very valuable position) and there's basically no value in drafting a right tackle with a top 5 pick.Dr. KnOiTaLL;1596819 wrote: Not saying I want Robinson, but just trying to understand the reasoning behind it...
We'd most likely (99 times outta 100) get more total value by drafting 2 positions of need with the 1st rounder and other high pick we'd get from moving back than from taking a RT. It has everything to do with the position and not the player.
The Pace ceiling isn't a crazy thing to say, so I don't want you to think I'm underappreciating Robinson.

Not at all. Unlike many on here, I try not to get my panties in a bunch when someone disagrees and/or questions me. I guess I just feel that if I were the GM and was left to decide between Robinson, Watkins, Barr, Clowney, and Mack, I would want to choose the guy with the greatest combination of a high ceiling and a high floor. My thought process being, regardless of value, the #4 overall pick should be a guy with a high ceiling that is also a very safe pick. That scares me away from Clowney simply because of the bust potential. It scares me away from all of the QB's for the same reason. I would probably be left with picking between Robinson, Mack, and Watkins at which point I would want a guy that could perform at a high level with little bust potential. I'm probably less risky on the draft side and would be more risky in trades and free agency (within reason). I don't know... I kind of like playing the GM role in my mind. Maybe it's a future career for me? I do have several connections...lhslep134;1596898 wrote:Because of value.
