OSU won't crybaby for an appeal. They will take it like a man and then deliver pain and suffering to 12 deserving bitches next season.

http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/public/ncaa/resources/latest+news/2011/december/ohio+state+cited+for+failure+to+monitor,+receives+postseason+ban
The penalties, some of which were self-imposed by the university and adopted by the committee, include:
  • Public reprimand and censure.
  • Three years of probation from Dec. 20, 2011, through Dec. 19, 2014. The public report contains further details on the conditions of this probation.
  • Postseason ban for the 2012 football season, which includes the conference championship game.
  • Reduction of football scholarships from 85 to 82 for each of the 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years. This is an increase from the university’s proposal of five initial scholarships spread over three academic years.
  • Vacation of all wins for the 2010 football regular season, including the 2010 Big Ten Conference co-championship and participation in the 2011 Sugar Bowl. The public report contains further details (self-imposed by the university).
  • Forfeiture of $338,811, which is the amount the university received through the Big Ten Conference revenue sharing for its appearance in the bowl game (self-imposed by the university).
  • Five-year show-cause order for the former head coach. The public report contains further details.
  • Disassociation of the booster for 10 years, including among other conditions, the prohibition of any financial or other support (self-imposed by the university).
  • Disassociation of a former student-athlete for five years, including among other conditions, the prohibition of any financial or other support (self-imposed by the university).

What boggles my mind is that the stupid piece of shit Rich Rod has gotten TWO schools placed on probation, yet he's able to take jobs like the one at Arizona and not have to face the consequences.

OSU is held to the highest standard. If a recruit litters, we deserve the death penalty. If you want to be the premier academic and athletic institution on the planet, you have to be held to these standards.

One year bowl ban, huh?

Well, I guess I'll just add this to the long list of stuff sleeper told me to book that he was completely wrong on.

You can book this while you're at it. ND and OSU have the same chance to win a BCS bowl game next year. LOL

Dunn and Pittman say there are still buckeyes. Spence is the one to worry about. I think we keep everyone, but it may be hard to finish the class as strong as we were going to.

If Spence leaves, he's not a winner and we don't want him. Let him go play for Notre Dame where he can rot his way to the NFL.

Obviously, I can't speak for recruits, but I know I would be willing to give up one year to make 3 straight runs at a National Championship. Spence's other option was Maryland, where he would likely never be on a top 10 team, let alone a NC contender.

Nobody's going anywhere--these kids want to play for Meyer, and they will.

With BKs coaching experience, he'd probably think Spence's best ability would be to film the team on a windy day.

Rehashing the same joke twice...word for word...within the same afternoon? I thought someone as versed in the world of comedy as you would know that something like that is hacky.

And also, using your recent success of booked items, I'll take this as good news for the Irish.

I don't get why a 1 year bowl ban would have much of an impact on future recruits.

It's too bad for the guys who are going to be seniors next year.

I really don't think that these penalties are all that bad. I mean the one year bowl ban sucks, but considering how bad this entire situation was handled throughout, we could have gotten much worse.

I wonder what impact it will have on someone like Simon who could opt for the draft.

It's not a joke its the truth and you know it. Despite playing a cake powderpuff schedule and all of ND nation predicting an undefeated season, they ended up with 4 losses(soon to be 5 with the inevitable bowl loss). Enjoy!

USC's recruiting hasn't been impacted too much, and they had much worse penalties.

I agree, but I think a lot of this vitriol is because we were led to believe that there would be no bowl ban. Maybe it's our fault for seeing the glass as half full, but we should've known that the NCAA is bi-polar and that anything can, and DID, happen.

Simon could go. and I would blame him. I kind of hope Howard goes. Stoney needs to stay. Urban's offense can up his draft stock the most.

It doesn't to me anyway, so you miss a bowl game your freshman year, who gives a shit, you're playing at Ohio State under Urban Meyer.

There would have been a whooole lot of new precedents being set other than the one that just was.

I still think John Simon comes back next year.
