If this is how it does play out, then I agree--he should step down immediately.chicago510;1021910 wrote:As an alum, I want Gene Smith's head. He totally bungled this whole thing and now misled everyone about the sanctions. He has to go.

I wonder if the NCAA will give the Dispatch a media ban for releasing the information before 3.

He was right there. No school with similar charges has ever received a bowl ban. The NCAA is most likely trying to shed the "OSU is the NCAA's golden child" talk.chicago510;1021910 wrote:As an alum, I want Gene Smith's head. I can't say we didn't deserve it. Thats why I was shocked we didn't self-impose one. Thats what pisses me off the most, how GS handled it, not the end result.

Surprised if that is true, but wonder if it goes back to the NCAA feeling like idiots for caving on last year's bowl game only to find out there was more to the story?chicago510;1021901 wrote:Breaking: Bowl ban for 2012 per the Dispatch

Sadly, I guess I was right. F-CK!!!!!!!!BigAppleBuckeye;1021880 wrote:Maybe I am overthinking this, but it seems odd that there is a time set at all regarding when these sanctions will be announced. I hope this isn't setting up for bigger news than any of us are anticipating. Based on facts, Meyer has already indicated that he has been "assured" (but not promised) that the NCAA penalties won't be much worse than has been discussed. Granted, that might be a bunch of crap, and I wasn't concerned about this much to be honest until today. I dunno, again I hope I am wrong, but if this was going to be a slap on the wrist, why set a 3pm timeframe to tell everyone?

Devier Posey deserves an apology although he won't get it. I am hoping that the NCAA realizes that OSU has self-punished itself many times over for the paltry 'improper' benefits that its players received. Probably, however, they'll add something just to prove that they can.Sources are telling me that the NCAA will issue an official apology to OSU for overreacting and no sanctions will be levied.

Gene Smith should get fired for accepting the Gator bowl and if there was any chance this would happen. What a douche.

It's not really the bowl ban that will upset me, it's the fact that the NCAA was basing their release of the sanctions on OSU's season. You can bet your ass that if OSU was in line to go to a BCS game this year, the sanctions would've been handed out weeks ago.

This is what is a fucking joke by the NCAA. They could have EASILY done this earlier, and banned OSU from THIS year's postseason. But they know that OSU will be more relevant next year, so they're making a statement. FUCK YOU NCAA!BigAppleBuckeye;1021917 wrote:Can't we just forfeit the Gator Bowl? UNREAL. Well of course. There is no getting around that he was wrong. For some reason though I just get the feeling that the NCAA are the ones who are flipping the script here. Almost as if they are trying to hit with a "shock and awe" of sorts?queencitybuckeye;1021948 wrote:Possible, but he has to own it regardless. Mislead or not, he was wrong.
