Ok, so Gee's presser should be @ 4:00 telling us all that Gene is going to GTFO.:D

Sources are telling me that the NCAA will issue an official apology to OSU for overreacting and no sanctions will be levied.

Interesting to see how that will play out, but I doubt the NCAA removes any sanctions that OSU has already self imposed.

Yeah, thats pretty much how I feel.

Ok, so he's the most "in the know AD?" Well being so knowledgeable and connected don't you think he should have to take SOME heat for this??

I don't give a shit what he knows. This "mess" occurred under his watch. He should be held accountable and suffer the consequences.

Well no shit. But that is the reason that he isn't gone yet. No doubt he is fired when everything is over, but there was probably no one in the country better suited to handle this whole mess from an NCAA liason standpoint than Smith.

My response was to why is he still here. There is a completely logical and acceptable reason as to why he is still the AD at this time. There is not once all of this is done.

Yeah, I see your point now. Do you really think he'll be gone after its all said and done? I'm thinking he's in the clear.

I think he is bought out at some point during this year. Probably after the school year ends but before the fiscal year ends. So sometime in May-June

Smith was/is well respected within' the NCAA, and that is why he is still at OSU, bottomline. OSU/Smith have a long history of reporting any and all violations to the NCAA. Publicly the way he handled it was a mess, behind the scenes, I have to think he did a great job with his knowledge of the system.

Maybe I am overthinking this, but it seems odd that there is a time set at all regarding when these sanctions will be announced. I hope this isn't setting up for bigger news than any of us are anticipating. Based on facts, Meyer has already indicated that he has been "assured" (but not promised) that the NCAA penalties won't be much worse than has been discussed. Granted, that might be a bunch of crap, and I wasn't concerned about this much to be honest until today. I dunno, again I hope I am wrong, but if this was going to be a slap on the wrist, why set a 3pm timeframe to tell everyone?

Jeff Rapp @RappUp

Not hearing postseason ban for #OhioState. They are most likely going to extend the scholarship reduction to 10 over three years (4, 3, 3).

Bad news, for walk-ons. OSU played I think 6 short of the allowable schollie total this year. It will have little to no bearing on the on-field product.

* Strip four more football scholarships over the next three years on top of Ohio State’s prior forfeiture of five scholarships over that span.
* Add an additional year of probation to OSU’s self-imposed two-year probation for the football program, meaning any violations through the 2013 season could draw harsher-than-normal penalties.
The NCAA also will hand a show-cause penalty to former head coach Jim Tressel for failing to report that some team members improperly sold memorabilia and for allowing ineligible players to compete throughout the 2010 season.
bowl ban doh.

As an alum, I want Gene Smith's head. He totally bungled this whole thing and now misled everyone about the sanctions. He has to go.
