What was unclear about that? I told the story as the record reported.

Two guys went to Paterno first. Not the cops. Not the FBI. Not child services.

What is your point? What did Paterno do/not do?

If I am confusing, I'd question your competence in English. There is nothing unclear about my posts. JoePa needed to be fired earlier, he's fired now, I'm satisfied with the action.
This has nothing to do with Paterno, but how can we overshadow the fact that this 1 man was an eye witness to the act and did nothing?

Having just 1 eye witness go to the police ends everything else. It's just a bad situation all over. You see people pass the buck in every single one of the victims' cases.

I believe if McQueary really did witness this, he should be prosecuted for allowing it to happen. And then castrated since he wasn't man enough to stop it.

Like I said before, my superior followed up with me. The principal brought me in and said "Here's what's going on..." I took that as truth. Do you know for sure that Joe Pa didn't go back to the AD and ask what was up? If the AD fed him a line "We've started an investigation; look we're interviewing McQueary about what he saw...," can you honestly blame Joe Pa for thinking "Alright, these guys are taking care of it."

8 years later and still nothing had been done about it? Come on, he had to of known that nothing was done. There is three possible scenarios.

1) JoePa reports it. It is investigated and they find out Sandusky raped the boy. Sandusky is kicked off campus and thrown in prison.

2) JoePa reports it. It is investigated and they find out Sandusky did not rape the boy. McQueary is kicked off campus for lying about such a serious offense.

3) JoePa reports it. Nothing is done and Sandusky is still allowed access to campus and McQueary is still on the coaching staff.

I think in all of these scenarios JoePa would know if anything was followed up upon. Since scenario 3 looks to be the likely scenario, it would seem that JoePa knew and didn't care that anything was followed up on or that he was too naive and believed it was handled properly. Either way, not a good leader.

I said the series of posts was unclear. You referenced a single one of them and asked how it was unclear. Perhaps your English competence is in question, because the series is the string of them together, not one individually.

Also, you didn't tell any story "as the record reported". You said Paterno was the first person that McQueary turned to. That part was clear, but inaccurate. Which was why I corrected you.

The posts that followed weren't really following a decipherable train of logic. Unless the University of Virginia has any relevant connection that I'm just not aware of, randomly bringing them up qualifies as confusing.

I'll says its a blend of 1 and 3. While Sandusky was still allowed on campus, he was told (by the AD I believe) not to bring youth around anymore. So obviously someone somewhere knew enough to take some kind of action. I would think/hope that the naive part because of the persona he has. I don't know specifics, but I wouldn't be shocked if there was some kind of stupid tenure protecting Sandusky's "right" to be on campus.

There is, Its called emeritus status and it was granted by the BOT.

It sounds, today, as if the plot is thickening and even more people may have been involved than originally thought. PSU is going to have to have public burnings of those involved to satisfy people's outrage.

The BOT doesn't need his blessing and by their own by laws Paterno has no say in the matter of emeritus status. Emeritus Status has NOTHING to do with the football program and why wouldn't Paterno have control of the Football Program he was the Head Coach.

Sandusky's title was : Assistant Coach Emeritus.

Do you REALLY believe that Joe Paterno would not have to give his approval for such a term, especially given his long-time stature as the head coach? A Wikipedia entry (take it for what it's worth) said that Sandusky "negotiated" that title upon his retirement. Do you suppose maybe he had leverage of some kind on both Paterno and the Board to get that title given to him? Otherwise, how in the heck does he have any leverage whatsoever?

Keep apologizing, though. It may be a bit sad to see you like this, but it does have some entertainment value.

I get the main headline (that Paterno needed to be fired).

I don't get how a Virginia message board or how that particular university would handle things in a similar situation related to how individual people feel Paterno didn't do anything wrong. And I don't get how mentioning that McQueary actually went to his father first and not Paterno inspired you to bring up Virginia in the first place.

I don't think it's really important because I understand your main point was that it was unacceptable and Paterno needed to go, but those posts didn't really flow together in a way that I could follow.

He didn't negotiate the title, the title of your emeritus status is determined by your rank or title held at retirement. Sandusky's title at retirement was "assistant Coach hence the title, Nice try keep reaching though it is entertainment!!!

And if you think you and Paterno were in the same situation you are wrong. Paterno had way way more power in that situation than you did. And if you as a teacher (I assume) had someone come to you and say I just saw someone in the bathroom raping a little boy, and nothing were done about it, I would hope to God that you would make sure something was. For goodness sakes you could call an abuse hotline and stay anonymous.
