Please try to keep this thread on topic and serious. There has been some mention recently about the site traffic being down and that the quality of the board is way down. Even one of my moderators mentioned that the quality is way down. So I am posting this thread looking for ideas for improving the quality of the board. All serious suggestions will be considered.

One idea that I have been throwing around is cleaning up all of the personal attacks and unnecessary name calling in the forums and creating a new "anything goes" (not porn) sort of forum for people to fight it out instead of derailing otherwise interesting topics.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Serious Request: Please get rid of the advertisement (or whatever is there) on the first post on each page. I don't like thread starters' posts getting limited to 1/2 the screen. I have Firefox and the ad-blocker so I don't see the ad, but I see the posts' text only going 1/2 way across the screen.

Other than that, I think this site rocks, functionally and socially.

I would be in favor of a little stricter moderation. I mean, are we really gonna miss the people that go on threads just to start trouble and call people names like they're still in grade school?? Honestly, if you can't debate like an adult, you don't really add anything to the site. I'm not sure there's much other than that internally that can really help. I think outside promotion is the key.

I don't know the answer. The people who get on here and begin topics and respond to topics are the ones in control. It seems as if many of the huddle transfers are all the same types and there isn't a lot of variety in threads. I spend most of my time on the Pro Sports forum but there is 90% Cleveland related LeBron stuff a Reds thread and that's mostly it it seems....and much of the stuff with LeBron leaving is so angry/bitter it might have turned many folks away.

I do believe when football starts it'll pick up considerably.

What % of the members are northern Ohio/Cleveland fans? It seems like a big % and there just isn't much variety....and not a big baseball crowd it seems.

Some also have taken the abilty to cuss and be tough guys way too far. We're all badasses.....let's just post reasonably with some consideration of others opinions......it may not be as AWESOME.....but it could also draw some more respected posters with abilities to create good topics.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Chillicothe minds think a like.

I'd consider being a little quicker to close topics that become nothing but pissing matches.

If we could get a bigger population of high school posters on here from parts of Ohio it would improve the Pro/College and Serious Business forums considerably I imagine.

Not sure how to do it for a small fee.....advertising in the right places maybe

Maybe one of the big mouth's on here could attend a Reds game.....wait until about the 3rd inning of a telecasted game and while being close to the broadcast booth just scream ohio chatter . com.......ohio chatter . com.... between pitches until you were escorted out. That would hit a lot of people for a small price! lol

Getting the high school football crowd would be big.......I'd find a way to advertise that crowd.

I would discourage FFT's "top" posters list because certain posters just start idiotic threads to try to become "top" posters. Or, if you don't like a thread, just get rid of it. People will get the message. It's YOUR site. And I agree with a previous statement about NE Ohio sports, especially concerning the Tribe. That traffic is WAY down this year because of how they are playing and posters are frustrated. HS football and the Browns will pick things up soon.

I really think everyone is getting too excited...it was this way in the summer months on JJ(before it sucked donkey balls) as well. I think maybe a little advertising at some HS football games or something similar is fine, but when fall sports roll around, there will be plenty of traffic.

This really isn't an improvement per-se, but to have a good quality HS Football scoreboard would give the site a big plus! Especially one that is easily viewed on your cell phone. I know I always have troubles finding good sites on my phone on game nights that have all the scores I want.

For me, I don't visit as much because you can't even post without someone making a stupid remark. There have been so many good threads that get cluttered with "Cool Story bro" and stuff like that. I mean yea, it's funny every once and a while, but not on every single thread. All of the trolls are pushing people away from this site in a hurry. I RARELY visit the Pro Sports Forum anymore because of guys like Capone and C.O.A.

Another example, about half the threads dont need to be made and could easily be merged into one topic discussing the topic. Such as indiviidual "RANK MY FANTASY TEAM" or the bajillion LBJ threads that were around during the the decision. It clutters the boards, makes it hard to navigate, and is just uneccessary. Outside of that, the less moderation the better. Getting post deleted because the idiot Mod (Heretic) didn't agree with my opinion does not make the boards better. I dont think censoring is the answer. That was one of the appeals to this board over JJ Huddle and one the reasons I made the switch.

Also, these boards esp for a sports forum get a ton of activity. During work I refresh the page, someone has posted. This is a dead time for sports unless you're a yankees fan (cough bandwagoners cough), I wouldn't worry about the drop off in activity.

PS. MJ sucked, Obama sucks, Gore sucked.

Most of the ones on here complaining do the same things that they are complaining about, yet they don't realize it.

Send me a free shirt. I will wear this shirt as I travel the country and encounter many dumbass sports fans in random bars (and gentlemen's clubs). And they will sign up and we will be diverse. And I will have a free shirt and lapdances. And I am serious.

What if it branched out from Ohio to something like "The Chatter" or whatever if you are looking to really get it widespread?? It would still be mostly Ohio members, as JJ's was, but Ohio wasn't in that name either. Lots of folks in Ohio are not Ohio Sports fans, etc....that may attract more Ohians as well, just a thought.

Your never going to have a perfect site. The more rules you make the worse it will get (see JJHuddle). People need to have thicker skin and not take everything so personal.
IMO it's the crybabies who bring this site down.

Justin,

Thanks for the site. I think the time of the year is just difficult for a message board. People are enjoying the summer and doing other things. The Reds are really the only positive thing going on with sports that are in season. I'm sure the site will pick up once football season starts and the playoff races in baseball heat up. I like the suggestion earlier of having a HS football scoreboard. Keep up the good work.

Thicker skin would help, but it still gets old reading the same trolling responses from the same people over and over and over. Hell, you can pretty much predict the responses before you ever read the thread.

Would mods have the ability to exile normal threads that go off the deep end to said forum (say, instead of locking them), or are we assuming that most people would just direct their flame wars that way?

Then put them on your ignore list if it really bothers you that much. I personally enjoy the banter back and forth, its what makes things interesting on here. I don't like when people throw out curse words left and right but it doesn't mean I'm going to cry about it to a moderater and try and have them banned.
