Maybe it's just me, but I have no problem with the site.

If you want more high school sports, go back to JJ. This site wasn't built on relying on the high school forums. It was built from the Sports Trivia/Info forum and all that nonsense.

I like it the way it is. Yeah the constant bantering gets old and annoying; but you're going to have that no matter where you go.

I could care less if someone wants an internet fight. Lord knows I have had a few myself but its whatever, if you really get that upset about it then you really need to look hard at yourself. I enjoy the banter and being able to "lash" out whatever, even enjoy the banter with Society deep down :). I have said there are posters here that have turned people away and that is true but honestly that is their problem. I really believe this just needs to be an open message board, half sports, half whatever. Find a way to keep the BS out of the HS Forums and the rest is what it is. After thinking about it somemore this is the stance I'm taking!!

Justin could always change the software again so everyone has to reset their password. That should get us about 3 or so more users.

Perhaps an "official" BRF swimwear thread!? I always liked that thread.

It's not that I'm not smart enough to know how to reset a password, I just don't use an email for forums that I use other than to sign up for a forum. After I'm signed up, that email has no use for me.

I am with Skyhook and Fab1. Quit getting your panties in a bunch. You got to put things in perspective. For the most part 99% of the people you interact with on here you won't know. If you are going to let some anonymous stranger get you all riled up on the internet, then you probably shouldn't be posting to begin with. If you consider a poster a troll and he/she actually does get under your skin over an internet forum, you should remember this one simple rule:

DON'T FEED THE TROLLS!

I have no problems. If more HS discussion is what you want, just tell your acquaintances around your league about the site. If everyone gets a couple people the quality discussion will boom.

I assumed that was the case, but why not just have one "junk" email that can be used more than one time?

Honestly, I find myself most agreeing with points made by Society and (don't have a heart attack, dude) CoA for various reasons.

We want to avoid being like JJ's where people get banned for whatever reason pops into someone's head, but want things to be civil.

But us mods and old-timers have a lot of inside jokes and a decent number of us have that "say anything to me, I don't care" vibe. Like, I don't think it'd be possible for Wes or I to insult each other. But, if someone is new and not familiar with the humor people use here, it's easy to imagine them being turned off by it all. Society's right about that.

CoA has a complaint (referenced in the whole page 1 "idiot mod" post) because I hid a post by him on the Pro Sports forum on the Steinbrenner's Death thread that referred to him as a cocksucker and seemed made purely to piss people off. A level-headed...ish poster reported it, I agreed and acted. But, let's be real, shit like what he said happens regularly on a high percentage of threads. It creates what's basically a no-win situation for everyone. Some people basically post like they were hanging with good friends who won't take any insult personally; other people look at it as bush-league stupidity when Random Handle #573 calls them a "fucking idiot bitch" because that person disagrees with them.

If everyone thought the same, things would be easy as fuck. But...

1. If we went JJ-Gestapo on the boards, a lot of people would get pissed off and leave. Teh Intrawebz is supposed to be fun...if you have to guard everything you say, that's not fun.

AND

2. If we make things pure "no holds barred", a lot of other people would get pissed off and leave. Not everyone wants some anonymous person to insult them because they have a different opinion. It's one thing if they take the "I'm right and that's that!" attitude (which some do), but when someone's just giving an opinion and get verbally shit on...that's not helping traffic.

Any good suggestions, I'm open-minded. It just feels like a balancing act on a wire to me. You go one way, you're draconian...you go the other and troll-types make it miserable for everyone else.

I think it depends on which direction the site wants to go. If you want to focus on a “Serious Bossiness” and “Pro Sports” type then leave all the rules loose. If you want to attract more high school forum posters then I believe the rules need to tighten a little on language, personal attacks and “thread shitting”.

I believe the site will grow quicker if it focuses more on high school sports. 99% of the pro and college forum information can be heard on ESPN. With the high school posters you get a lot of information that no one would ever see. It has more passion because we know people involved personally.

I read a lot of posters that are worried that this site will become another JJ with its rules. Let’s not forget that JJ was pretty successful before the pay to play so why not use the positives and learn from their mistakes.

Heretic is right it is a “balancing act on a wire”.
Good luck!

My question is this... why the need for change? When you feel the need for a "change" it's often because you are comparing yourself to something else. Do we need a change because we still want to fight JJ? Honestly, regardless of what anyone else wants to say, that is the main goal. We want to be better than the competition, and we DO still want to stick it to the OP. Yeah, we can sit here and say "that's not it," but we're lying to ourselves if we do say that.

If you want this place to be more about high school, the we ARE competing with JJ, so to beat competition, you have to do what they are doing, but do it better. JJHuddle IS(was) high school sports talk. Regardless of how much I hate that place, you can't take that away from them just because. If you want to take that away from them, then you HAVE to see them for what they are... competition. So, if you want to compete, then take off your damn gloves and compete.

If high school sports isn't what you want to be all about, then that's fine as well. But find a way to make this better. I don't have the answers.

Suggestions
- Pro Sports: Split the forum up. Some people don't want to read LeBron/Cavs/LeBron/Reds/LeBron/Indians/LeBron/LeBron stuff constantly. Make a forum for only Ohio teams. Make a forum for everything else. Or, make a forum for pro football. Pro basketball. Pro baseball. Whatever. Is there a limit to the number of forums you're allowed to have? Everything doesn't HAVE to be so cluttered, does it?

- College Sports: See above.

- High school: All it takes is advertising to the actual high schools, and you HAVE to clean up the high school section to consider ourselves credible. Like it or not, you have to.

- VBookie: While I'm out of money, you gotta have more things on which to bet. Takes some work, but have every MLB game on there, even if it's just to pick the winner. Also, I don't think there is a problem with "can't lose, sure thing" bets. You have to hide them. It's a way to possibly "reward" people for checking out the forum. Also, maybe create ways on the site to have posters earn more VCash. Referrals, post counts, "solid post" (like on Around the Horn).

Just my ideas.

I agree with most of what Mr. Bass says above. Especially regarding the HS Sports area. As this is my main interest, I do feel that a more strict moderation needs to be in place...if not only to bring in the crowds that follow those sports (parents, grandparents, other family, students, etc.). Is it possible to have a front page of the site where people can choose between HS Sports, Pro Sports and other junk (Serious Business)? I guess you could say that it would be similar to the front page on JJ's but we could of course make it our own.

I joined JJHuddle years ago to discuss HS football. I stumbled across the Sports/Trivia forum during the offseason and enjoyed joking around/threatening to kill myself on there. BUT...it's always been an afterthought to the real reason I was on the board.

You guys fucked yourselves with that crowd. Those who joined JJ for HS sports stayed. When you went to that site starting thread after thread of porn images, "Ohio Chatter rocks" threads and personal attacks on it's members...it made their decision easy. Pay the $12 for moderated, responsible and informative talks or go to a free board that allows the heinousness. Yes, I know their is some hypocrisy in that statement (I attacked JJ before the change after I was given a suspension)...but there is a reason why I am still a member in good standing over there and 75% of you are not.

You're not going to get the HS football crowd. Bottom line. Unless you do what JJHuddle does and cater the site to that. I have posted more on JJHuddle in the last week (because of HS football) then I have on here. This is an "off-season" site, and I mean that in the kindest way possible. Justin has done a lot here, and obviously cares about the needs/wants of each member....he's not to blame.

I do think, however, it will pick back up on it's own. Wait until football season goes by...make a strategy for next football season and learn from this experience.
