I didn't think Atlanta was all too hot myself. Tons of trash and pan handlers.

If you ever want to see Lebron play a home game again, you are going to have to :)

Seriously though, you are usually a pretty good poster Scarlet, and this post resembles one from some of the less-educated folks on here. There is a reason why NJ residents make the most income (or Top 3, it always fluctuates) in the U.S. - some really gorgeous parts and affluent neighborhoods. I wouldn't base your opinion on the Sopranos and Jersey Shore.

New Jersey isn't bad, but Trenton sucks.

I'm going to go with Detroit, I've only been there once, and I'll never go again.

Ditto. We went to Detroit when I went to BG, and I still don't really know how we ever made it home. I've been to a lot of "big" cities in my life, including Chicago, Miami, and Dallas (going to LA next year) and I have to say that Detroit made me more nervous than I have ever been in my life after the sun went down...and it wasn't all that comfy of a feeling while it was still daylight.

I also agree with the poster who mentioned east St. Louis. It's pretty rough.

And I would like to throw in Houston, Texas as a place that I haven't seen mentioned yet.

I know that Pittsburgh has cleaned it's act up but the ONE time I visited there in 1987, you could defecate in the street and it would have been referred to as "air freshener." I've heard it's cleaned up it's act but it was a bigger shithole than Detroit at that time. The bar we went to actually had a DIRT floor. I was expecting to be arrested by Roscoe P. Coltrane.

Now, one corner has Ben raping chicks, another had Santonio selling/buying drugs, yet another has a handful of toothless losers waving their urine soaked terrible towels, living in the '70s.

Honestly, why do you continue to post this "statistic" without a source? You tried this in the "15 Worst College Crime Areas" thread a while back and you failed to provide a source then too!
In that thread I actually provided two links that showed Youngstown was not the "highest murder-per-capita rate in the U.S.", but New Orleans, at the time was; did you just not read it? That source is here:
...New Orleans has by far the nation's highest per-capita murder rate.
Using the highest of those population estimates, the city last year recorded 55 murders per 100,000 residents. The number used by the FBI notches that up to 64 murders per 100,000 people.
Source: http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2009/..._orle.html
The other link I proved is here:
"Here's a source for Youngstown: http://www.city-data.com/city/Youngstown-Ohio.html"

Do you not know how to source material or do you not understand what "per capita" actually mean (hint: it doesn't mean a lot)?

...I've worked in a few towns & only been afraid a couple of times but I got to say the North side of Chicago is pretty nasty. A few of the streets I turned down and thought to myself ...please let me get back to Ohio.

Right up there also is;
1. Gary, In ( worked there for 6 months & it was NOOOOOOOO picnic)
2. East St. Louis
and...Zanesville, OH (rough gangs there led by gerb & bigmirg)

Let's see, Detroit is literally bulldozing whole neighborhoods of abandoned houses with a goal of shrinking its area to fit the city services actually needed, and basically start over.

I'd say there's your "winner".

Such a shame that Detroit is in the shape it is in.

A beautiful, important city, wonderful architecture, history, etc., now reduced to a shell of what it once was.

I still enjoy visiting, though.

Thanks for the kind words BigApple. I guess I am basing my opinion largely off of my experience last summer spend in Manhattan, where no one had a kind word to say about NJ. Like I said, I've never been, but I've heard it is extremely polluted and that there is a reason why the city of NY sends all its trash to NJ and they accept it.

Just saying. I could be wrong. You're closer to the situation so you probably know a lot more than I do.

Youngstown isn't even in the discussion. It's nowhere near as shitty as it used to be.

Detroit on the other hand...

I've been to many of the afore mentioned cities and my vote goes to Gary, IN. There are a few good spots in Detroit, I've never really had a problem in Cleveland, but Gary is a staight up dump. I passed through there before, and stopped to see the lake. After walking through several hundred feet of any garbage between car tires to broken beer bottles I had to get out. Gary is like a different color. If you consider crime rates, I'm sure Gary is not as bad, but as a city, its nasty.

Washington D.C. A lot of crime and most of that crime is committed on Capitol Hill and in the White House.
