I almost bought a record player over the holidays but didn’t because the reviews were split. What one do you recommend or have?
I have a Crosley C100. It’s a decent starter turntable for the price, I really have no complaints.
That said, I’ll probably upgrade at some point this year.
I inadvertently left Queen and Bad Company off my list ................ pretty much 'must haves'.
Live Bullet by Bob Seger is a must on vinyl
posted by queencitybuckeyeNice to see a good selection of John Prine, and some Flatt and Scruggs.
A mother lode of John Prine dropped at a local record shop at noon today. Got there as they opened with about 7 other people and was able to snag them all.

"Sweet Revenge" is one of my favorite albums.
I love that 3 of them are DJ copies with "suggested cuts for air play" listed out. All of them were in damn good shape, too.
I have some Prine, but on CD. Think it's a two-CD collection of a bunch of his stuff. Always have liked his sound.
Looking at your collection, I noticed a total lack of Iron Maiden, which has caused me to come to the conclusion that you suck on multiple levels. I'd advise at least getting their live 2-record album Live After Death to at least somewhat improve your standing in my eyes. And then virtually every-fucking-thing else! Maybe a touch of Dream Theater, as well, in order to look more sophisticated and refined. Images and Words is a great starting point, but their earlier stuff is all good and comparatively accessible (way fewer 10+ minute songs that are more "show off how technically skilled we are" than "catchy, fun to casually listen to").

Up the Irons!
I definitely want to pick up some Iron Maiden. It's hard to find old presses at affordable prices.
My wantlist is expanding much quicker than my wallet will allow, unfortunately.

That's the shitty part of it, isn't it? We need BMG and Columbia to get back in business with their Get 12 For $1 and Then Buy 6 Over 2 Years deals because that's how I built my collection when I was growing up.

Had this one spinning over the weekend .............another must-have

we all did that. Especially when you had to update all the vinyl and tapes to CD in the early 90's

Seeing Quaker's photo of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Gold album, I think that was one of my 6 or 8 choices when I joined Columbia in 1979. Agreed, it was a killer deal as long as you were timely in mailing the monthly decline letter for the duration.
Dr. O'Boogie's "Goofy Gold" - great stuff. My sons heard my Weird Al LP's and CDs when they were 10. Then they discovered Dr. Demento at the library, and they were singing "Stress" by Jim's Big Ego all day long.
posted by brutus161Nice list, I'm happy you have quite the collection of Shooter Jennings.
My wife got me an early press of Red Headed Stranger and Bat out of Hell for Christmas. I would recommend both for your collection. I would also suggest Songs in the Key of Life.
Edit: I see Red Headed Stranger is on your want list.
I found a sealed 1979 repress of Red Headed Stranger at Half Price Books this weekend for $20 so I grabbed it.
Finally snagged a playable copy of Steely Dan Aja at a decent price. I’ve been hunting for a while.
Also spent a bunch this week with an antique/record shop that sells thru facebook live 3-4 days per week. They have $5 unlimited shipping for the week, so anything you buy from any of the shows that week all ship together for one price. This was my first time buying from them, we’ll see how everything looks when it’s delivered. I got 3 sealed and, I think, 5 vintage. One was the new Megadeth live album that they discounted heavily because they ordered way too many and they weren’t selling. Only $25 for a triple vinyl that retailed for $40ish. Also snagged a Tyler Childers Purgatory, Pearl Jam Yield, a couple Frankie Valli for my wife, a Willie, a George Jones, and an Elvis.
I’m pretty sure I have a record buying addiction. It’s better than meth, I guess. Probably more expensive, though.
Aja.......good call there. Steely Dan is the Sunday morning house cleaning music.

Me, too.
