How long is too long on a ventilator/ respirator in this present moment in COVID-19 pandemic? "You make the call"

In the very near future (two weeks) the increase in the COVID-19 death toll will accelerate. This will be due to the number of ventilators/respirators, the critical patient time presently on these ventilators, and the increase in new patients.  Note: The reality is some will have to be unplugged.

There is no "too long," especially if it ends up saving a life.

No ventilator for me.  If it comes to that, I consider my time up.

I'm young, I'll take a ventilator. Not sure how long I'd want to stay on one, though.

I want all the interventions. I've seen too many remarkable recoveries in my ICU experience to think I would be willing to give up at any specific point in time. My wife isn't so certain for herself. I'm not sure what I would want for my parents.

What if you needed a ventilator, in the starting stage of being critical care condition, newly admitted, in need of a ventilator with a better than 60% survival rate if given the needed support of a ventilator now. Four individuals extended critical care, induced coma, with two weeks of ventilator dependency.  "too long is real now"  This is what many will be faced within the coming 2-3 weeks.

I totally understand:  There is no "too long," especially if it ends up saving a life. COVID-19 does not provide that option at this present time. I have a relative whose husband has been in an induced coma, ventilated for 3 weeks critical, little or no signs of approval. She has a 9-month-old daughter, living in California..... the shortage of ventilators is real.

Gimme the ventilator. Being brain dead and on life support is another story entirely.
