Played sports but was in band until they tried to interfere with my sports. Alto sax, and was good at it.

Wouldn’t let you be in band without being in marching band and I didn’t have the time nor wanted to waste football games being in the band.

Lol.

Mainly trumpet.  Also played alto horn (small baritone).  Could play a scale on a trombone, and Hang On Sloopy on tuba.  Even messed around on marching snare and tri-toms.

My freshman son plays trombone and loves the band. Fortunately the band program is flexible and pride themselves on kids doing other activities. He’s in XC, basketball and track also. I never knew how much time was invested in a good marching band, just assumed they were good. He spent 12 hours on his only day off yesterday at Trombone Day at OU. $2000 later he’s very happy.

Lord I never knew the cost of that stuff either.

No band. But, I did do a musical one year. It interfered with baseball a lot, so I never did it again. Was a fun adventure though.

I do wish I had some musical ability though. I would prefer to play a fiddle.

We use to hang out and play guitars. But it was actually an excuse to drink and get stoned

I was in choir and it only interfered a couple times in baseball in 3 years.

Did band from 5-10 grade. Trumpet. Really dug it in 5-6, but when I started getting more into sports in 7th grade, I started to lose interest and went from one of the top chairs to the rock bottom where if I beat anyone in a, uh, whatever you call it when you challenge to move up a chair, they'd be embarrassed in that "Washington Generals beat the Globetrotters?!?!?!" way. Only reasons I stuck with it through two years of HS were (a) because my parents had the "we didn't pay however much $$$ for you to quit this early!" stance and (b) you had to take two years of some sort of art in HS (band, choir, home ec, industrial arts, art, whatever) and I was already established with band, so I figured two years of going through the motions while keeping the parents semi-happy was the best choice for in-home harmony.

Really, for me, band was one of those things that I got interested in because I'd hear those professional trumpet or sax players and think they sounded awesome, but when I got my own trumpet and realized it'd take years and years of work to even try thinking about doing what they do...while instead I'd be spending my time sweating my way through really simple stuff AND I found out that I liked exercising and practicing for sports more than doing that work, my interest faded quickly.

I was. Started on trumpet in 5th grade and stunk at. I was going to quit in 6th grade year. My Director brought in this old beat up baritone horn and I loved playing that. I played Baritone, treble clef, up until I graduated. I also played Tuba my Jr and Sr year. Never really learned bass until my Sr yr when I took trombone lessons. I also took drum lessons my freshman year. Band officer 3 of the 4 years in HS. Quarter Master my Soph and Jr year. President my Sr year.

....And I was also in Swing Choir for 3 years.
