Only watched for a few minutes.

Trump is his normal self.

Biden looks like he’s ready to die.

What was the idea behind seeking another term? There was no reason for it.  I can’t believe these are the two serious choices.

I’d be shocked if there is a 2nd debate. I didn’t watch it all but followed along on Twitter. The media is admitting they’ve been getting texts from high level Dems in a panic.  They’re also trying to say Biden was impacted by a cold. Bc we all know a cold keeps you from finishing sentences or making coherent thoughts. Trumps mostly full of shit but the bar is so low that he looks better bc he can at least speak. What a shit show. Lol then they argued about beating each other at golf…

So just from reading a handful of reactions here, I'm not so sure that I want to see any of it for myself. Some things don't have to be seen to, nonetheless, be understood.

Going to start watching it right now. Thoughts on it tomorrow.

I didn't watch it because if I ever decided I wanted to watch geriatrics babble at each other for an extended time, there are plenty of area nursing homes that probably could use volunteers, but I would have given Biden points if he would have responded to Trump's "he can't hit a golf ball 60 yards" taunt by saying "Well, I guess that means I'd be doing something other than playing golf during my tenure...unlike you!"

But that doesn't seem to be the case and most screen shots I saw had him with the sort of dopey, befuddled look on his face that I'd imagine 78% of the people watching at home had because the realization was setting in that these two are the main choices on the ballot.

I don't recommend drinking and watching the debate. I am struggling to function today.

So I watched it *sigh*

Trump:

Saying his admin has the best environment? That we had H2O? Worst answers on that topic. Ever. He could have said so many other things like we could all go completely off the grid and it wouldn't change the climate because of other heavily populated countries who would rather work and feed their kids rather than virtue signal about political hysterias. Somehow managed to avoid answering I think two different questions because he was too busy rebutting Biden. The bickering about some general sassing off about Trump was unnecessary at that point. Otherwise I was a bit surprised that he wasn't a jackass all throughout. That helped him to some degree I think. It's a better look for him.

Biden:

Putting aside political ideology - I'm just angry at this point. When will we be able to be human? If anybody... ANYBODY... thinks that the equality in oldness is an indifferential at this point, they are not only idiotic but also profoundly lacking in compassion. And fuck you if you continue to insist that this is just a one-off. It's not. We've all watched what has been in front of us for years now and is it really so hard to admit that maybe the need to disagree with somebody "just because" was stupid? I enjoy arguing, too, but I have never felt the need to do it over this. It cuts too close to the bone for me. I will take the snide remarks about me for whatever, but I've been solid on this one thing for years. Let it bother you, I don't care, you'll be fine.

Anyway. Ok, so Biden's voice was hoarse. I don't think it was because he had a cold, I think his preppers really over did it with all the prep. Obviously. That doesn't excuse the slack open mouth or the staring off, etc. What he did manage to do decently imo was goad Trump a couple of times. But, goading Trump about a felony was a tactical error. He had no answer when Trump turned that back against him.

Media reaction:

I watched a bunch of reaction vids from all the big medias. Most of them did the performative schtick of being shocked. Morning Joe being the worst with the sadness and trembling voices.

What now?

Will the Dems keep Biden saying it was just a bad night, that everybody has one? That's generally true. And since they've been dry humping the progressive stack they'd love nothing more than to have President Dome, I mean President Harris, become president when Biden inevitably has to exit the stage. Or will they swap Biden out with Newsome? Id like to see that, actually. Dems need to feel what they vote for. It's easy for them to be blind when the results are seen from another city or state. Sometimes the only way to get out of something is to go through it.

Anyway, are there anymore of these debates coming up before the conventions?

Thanks, CenterBHSFan.  Totally forgot about this forum.  I've bookmarked "All Threads", but never realized the politics threads don't appear there.

Justin announced he was hiding the politics forum inside of a political thread. So unless you saw that particular post in that particular thread you'd have no idea what happened. So I'm guessing that people thought the forum was deleted.

It’s easy to hold Jill Biden accountable for this - and I certainly do.  But there are a lot of people who enabled this and are so friggin’ selfish to put this catastrophe in front of the interests of the country.  Biden himself holds some responsibility as I don’t think he’s so far gone as to not understand the ramifications of this.

I happen to like some of the things this administration did during its first term - some I didn’t like. But if the things I liked were a result of an unelected committee working behind the scenes, that is not acceptable.

I disagree with Gut in that I believe the president is a powerful individual.  I don’t think the president’s actions have immediate effect generally.  I think they are often felt months and years after they are taken.  That to me is why having a decent person in the office is important.  We all have our opinions as to what constitutes a “decent” person.

Regardless, a senile shell of a man ain’t it.

Well, I agree with you, Boogie, that Biden has some fault in this. Especially when you think about the fact that he's been trying for 40 years to be president. Now that he's attained it, one would think that that would be his greatest achievement that he could hang his hat on. I also agree about Jill Biden, she has her own share in this fiasco, too.

The Dem party itself deserves the lions share of blame, hands down. If people in this forum were pointing out that something wasn't right for him - then it's not a hard conclusion that his administration and party members knew. That they didn't take ANY action last year to form an alternative direction lies squarely on their shoulders. Corporate media, who are Dem stenographers, propagandized every Dem voter. But, you know, voters volunteer to a large degree to be propagandized in the first place. It's a mess of gigantic proportions now.

If they insist on Biden being the nominee it's either because they don't have confidence in somebody else this late in the game or they've got one more trick up their sleeve for Trump. Possibly both are true.

I also wonder where this puts RFKjr. This fiasco can only take votes away from both Biden AND Trump and push those votes to him, I would think.

Is RFKjr the dark horse nobody gave any serious thought towards?

His voice (for me)

Some people don't like bloodlines being the go-to for president (I'm one of those).

The fact he had brain worms at one point. The problem was fixed but the idea of muh brain worms! is a hard one to erase.

The press, Republicans and Democrats have done everything they can to keep the Duopoly in place.

The Dems pretend to care about the environment because there's a lot of power and money in that. But out of the top 3 candidates, RFK is the one who has done the most for the environment but they will never showcase that.

RFK would do a lot to stifle wars and war spending. The Dems have somehow become the party of wars and so stifling them in any manner is anathema to them right now.
