Trump has defied all logic, so I wouldn't put it against him. I also think you are underestimating the hatred the majority of republicans have for Hillary. It's hard to speculate on all of this until we move into the general election cycle, but Hillary will be in the spotlight (something she really has tried to avoid) and I think it will only heighten the anger of the voting base.
