These games mean absolutely nothing.
Wisconsin lost to a Canadian team before last season.

The "unathletic" Andrew Harrison down the lane over Dakari Johnson.

This kentucky team is gonna be unbearable. Media is going to talk about them all day every day.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with it. It's already started. They are going to play all season as the hunted. All the pressure will be on them to run the table in March.GOONx19;1666787 wrote:Sounds great to me.

If Ohio State doesn't win it all then UK better. Will have $160 coming my way if they do.

Duke had their countdown to craziness last night. Jahlil Okafor is good, that is all.

Saw the B1G has 11 teams in the top 40 of the initial kenpom rankings. Next closest was the big 12 with 7. B1G is going to be a grind.

I got cautiously optimistic as he has IU at 26th (9-9 in B1G). Reasoning is guard/wing play, which is what I see as a real strong point. Should be one of the best teams as far as Wings/Guards go. Hopefully it propels them to a solid year.Midstate01;1667693 wrote:Saw the B1G has 11 teams in the top 40 of the initial kenpom rankings. Next closest was the big 12 with 7. Of course, there is always the issue of winning when the coach is a severe hindrance.

For anyone who has missed this secret story currently unfolding in Chapel Hill, NC. NCAA president Mark Emmert on the revelation of the Wainstein report, which details a long-standing history of academic fraud at UNC that dates back two decades and which more than 1,500 athletes were involved:
"Just based on the (Kenneth) Wainstein report, this is a case that potentially strikes at the heart of what higher education is about. Universities are supposed to take absolutely most seriously the education of their students, right? I mean that's why they exist, that's their function in life. If the Wainstein report is accurate, then there was severe, severe compromising of all those issues, so it's deeply troubling. ... It's absolutely disturbing that we find ourselves here right now."
No word yet on how this will, or if it will, effect the men's basketball team, but Emmert stressed that the facts of the case are troubling and if ineligible players were used that wins -- and possibly championships -- could be vacated. As a lifelong fan of the Duke-Carolina rivalry, I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this whole storuy. It'd be sort of sad in a way to see some of that history tarnished, if the hoops program turns out complicit in the case.

Vacated wins. The most meaningless punishment of all.

I definitely agree with this, but, with UNC, where the famous 'Carolina Way' was born under Dean Smith, such a punishment would be somewhat devastating to the credibility and reputation of the program, especially if banners are removed from the rafters.Mulva;1668187 wrote:Vacated wins. If the scandal really is as deep as the Wainstein report suggests, however, I am sure a bigger hammer will come down.

Actually, I think the most meaningless is hitting the current "team players" with a punishment they had no involvement in. Nor did they know about when deciding whether or not to attend a school over another.Mulva;1668187 wrote:Vacated wins. The most meaningless punishment of all.
But yes, the vacated wins is next in line.
Its a difficult thing to punish when those involved are no longer participating, coaching or whatever for the university.
Not sure there ever is a clear cut answer as a way to punish in circumstances like this.

Imagine if this happened at UK? In 6 years under Calipari? This is what, IU's 5th alcohol-related incident under Crean? They do it "the right way."

He blew a .025. I would hardly consider that "alcohol related".
Unless the other kid was hammered and stumbled in front of the car or something.

What can a coach do about kids drinking? LolAzubuike24;1669607 wrote:Imagine if this happened at UK? In 6 years under Calipari? This is what, IU's 5th alcohol-related incident under Crean? They do it "the right way."
Id personally like him to remove scholarship for a year or kick off team or something.
But, "doing it the right way" is a direct correlation to recruiting. Don't try to spin it any ther way.

Which is funny, considering we talk about "recruiting", yet it's hilarious to think there's anything extra going on at UK than anywhere else. It's simply not necessary.
And Laley, I'm not bashing IU. Not at all. I don't fault a coach really for a kid drinking, smoking weed, banging chicks, etc. It's part of college.
My point was, imagine if guys with the character of Jameis Winston were making headlines at UK under Calipari's watch. It would be unbearable PR.

While I don't think it's ridiculous to think that, as Cal was caught at Memphis and UMASS, I don't think he needs to at UK.

I mean, you can never say never, but given how many other coaches and media members that would love to expose even the smallest violation and how the NCAA doesn't watch any basketball program harder, I just can't see him risking anything more than what every school does.Laley23;1669648 wrote:While I don't think it's ridiculous to think that, as Cal was caught at Memphis and UMASS, I don't think he needs to at UK.
