Starting about 2 years ago, I moved to another house. Transferred all of the billing accounts online from the old address to the new address, with one exception, my Ohio Edison account . For some reason the account failed to transfer. I tried once more a few weeks later with the same results. I also tried to call once, but couldn't get through to a rep. So, I said screw it and thought I'd take care of it when the monthly electric came.
Flash forward to today. The electric bill never came during my time there. I moved out 4 months ago. My old roommate calls me saying that a notice was put on the door that the electric will be turned off in a few days. He called them and they said we are expected to pay the bill clear back to the date of move in (~$2000).
I understand I could have been a little more proactive in setting the account up, but I did attempt to, a few times. Anyone had experience with something like this before? Any chance of getting it waived or even reduced? I mean it is their fault for not billing us all during that time. I can dispute it with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, but not sure what that will entail. Not really looking to get into any legal dispute.
