Demand a personal meeting. If you have the balls to confront the power company representative you can (with control and integrity) state your case and just maybe offer a solution. I find that meeting people and issue directly is always in my favor. It’s all about having solution, presenting the facts and being in control.

Mistakes happen and documentation not provided is reason for compromise solution. At this point the power company like the IRS has to get something the question is how much of something are they willing to get? They have people, lawyers included, whose job it is to handle such situations. Their incremental cost for pursuing payment is $0.

All that has to be proven is that the power was used. That's easy, it's called reading a meter. That there was a billing issue (99.9% the fault of the OP) is of no consequence.
