I'm a little late to the party on this one but after Calvin Johnson lit up the Cowboys secondary, Jerry Jones (seeming a little "hurt") said something to the effect of "Deion would've shut down Megatron."

For those who saw Deion Sanders play, dude was a freak. Couldn't support the run worth a crap but was easily the best cover corner I've ever seen. Plus, if you got behind him, he had ridiculous "makeup speed."

Megatron's size makes him a freak along with his leaping ability.

For those who saw Prime Time play, what say you? Would Deion have shut down CJ had they faced each other?

I'd say more like contained, but not completely shut down.

Deion is my favorite player ever, so naturally I'd have to pick him to "win" the match up. Now whatever you define "winning" as is subjective of course.

Yeah, I figured CJ would go for about 100 yards and maybe a TD while Deion had a pick or two. No way Megatron lights up Prime for 200+ though.

All things being equai meaning a QB who can put the ball in the right spot I would have to say that Rod Woodson would have been better to "stop" megatron one on one than Deion. Sanders was great, but not physical at all. Was surprised when I just looked that deion was taller than woodson, but I think what would set them apart would have been Rod being more phyisical.

Would Deion shut him down? Doubt it, but I believe he would have been held below his normal career numbers for any given game.

Revis shut him down back in 2010.

Revis or the whole defensive scheme? Saw a few times last year teams would bracket him so often that it would not have been a smart move to throw it, but left many other options open.

Calvin is the best receiver ever and would run train on any of the players in the past. Bigger, stronger, faster and he has freaking Stafford throwing him the ball. Imagine if CJ was on a team with Brees, Brady, Peyton, Rodgers. He'd average 30 TD a season.

I love these scenarios. Very short sighted. If Calvin Johnson was playing in Deion's era he would've had access to the same training techniques, nutrition, etc as Deion had so he'd likely be no better than he is today, probably worse. And Deion, in Megatron's era, would have access to all of the supplements, training, etc that CJ has so he'd probably be better.

That's like the argument that Jim Brown would suck in today's NFL or Lebron would "dominate" in yesterday's NBA. It's a bullshit argument.

It's hard to say. QB's play such a big role in this for the WR, that it's hard to say a CB shutdown a WR. I think most QB's shy away from throwing toward good CB's, when they can usually just exploit the other corner or other matchups. Basically like the Lions did when Megatron faced Haden, they just exploited the Bush and Fauria matchups.

Woodson would be a better matchup than Deion

I might have brought up a Rod Woodson/Megatron matchup had Jerry Jones mentioned it....but he didn't. :) I feel like the ghost of Non has returned. ;)

I don't think Deion would be physical enough to shut him down. Deion's speed would give him trouble but I think Megatron's size wins out.

I don't think Deion could shutdown Megatron. when Deion played corner it was a different time. They don't let corners get away with anything like they did when Deion played.

Megatron is too big and physical, Deion would do alright on him but no one is shutting him down.

Big ifs. The players of today are better than the players of yesteryear, ain't no doubt about it.

Jim Brown? What team would a big fat bruising back play for? Probably somewhere in the CFL.

No big "ifs." Give Jim Brown the same nutrition, weight training, drugs, etc that today's players have and he'll dominate. He'd be even bigger, strong & faster than he was back then. Just like if you take away your boy Lebron's nutrition, training, DRUGS (and yes, I do think he's roided), etc he's on a level playing field back in Jordan's day. He'd be better than most but he wouldn't be the dominant force he is today. Give Jordan today's advantages that Lebron has and their skill levels wouldn't even be close. (wasn't my intent to turn this into a hoops discussion)

You can't make these bling "assumptions" that today's players would be dominant back in previous times because they wouldn't have the same technology, etc that makes them great today.

BR you speak the truth man! Sleeper's always going on and on about today's players being so much better than the guys in the past...BULLSHIT! Drop them into the same eras and guys like Butkus destroy today's pussys like Incognito. Dr J and Jerry West light up the roid-less LBJ lika roman candle.

There are a lot of factors being overlooked when comparing eras. One can't just say, carte blanche, "today's players would be better." The assumption being made is that Megatron could be transported back to Deion's era, along with the same technology, training, etc while Deion would have to keep his current eras technology. It's pretty short sided.

Fact is, the technology isn't the same. It is a reason players are bigger, stronger, faster. Another reason is the success of these players in the past in growing the game. You can hold onto your BS old school mentality all you want, but players are bigger, stronger, faster and better. Sorry, deal with it. I have NO IDEA why it would get your panties all bunched up in the first place. Richie Incognito, while he is a douche bag, would come off the line and put Dick Butkus on his ass EVERY single time. Tiernan, I'm not sure you could have come up with a worse example. Football is far and away the worst example anyone could point to in trying to argue against the fact that players today are bigger, stronger and faster. You have linemen that run 4.8 40's and weight 320. When Jim Brown played, he was as heavy as some of his linemen. It's basically the same theory as arguing that Johnny Unitas was every bit as good as Brady/Manning/Brees/Rodgers....and I could name basically every other starting QB in the game. It's a ridiculous argument and I doubt anyone would try to make this argument as it relates to QBs.

You could've left it at this. The rest of what you posted is drivel. You have no idea what a player from Brown's/Butkus' era would be like with today's drugs, weightlifting, nutrition, etc.

Actually, I do. They'd be bigger, faster and strong. But they didn't have it back then, you can't just arbitrarily take that away from players today, it's a variable. So your argument is quite literally retarded.
