Real Estate prices go up in areas that have Strong School Systems (it increases the fair market value). Communities offer tax abatement to help draw a business to the community because they have to. Until that loop hole is shut down for all then all have to play in that world. If you were a business owner and Wooster offered the abatement and Orrville did not where would you go?
Series- I am sure you were one of the uninformed voters that did not understand funds of schools and how they work. Maybe you should go and talk to Richie and he can explain it to you. Orrville City Schools have done a great job of controlling costs. However, if the state keeps cutting the money then the money has to come from somewhere. I don't want to pay more taxes either, lord knows I pay plenty...but I am smart enough to know it is what the community needed to do to keep our schools strong. I hate to see teachers let go after many many years of service. Apparently you don't care about that. It really does not suprise me about you. I am sure you would have been for the levy if your kid was still in school or would have been complaining about pay to play. Congratulation, you got a lot of people fired and hurt our schools, kids, sports, property value and much more.
The strength of the school system isn't going to weaken because costs have to be cut if management is doing their job. The schools/teachers aren't the only people that have to or have had to experience cut-backs. Unfortunately, it's the world that we all have to "play" in!
You have no idea what I care about...whether I voted yes or no, taxes have been paid to that go to support the schools. I hate to see quality people being let go because funding is low also, I've been in that position before myself, whether a teacher or not. If my children were in school now and I couldn't afford to pay for them to play multiple sports, they wouldn't play, multiple sports.
I grew up in a city and schools that were poorly funded and poorly equipped by the school board because we were black! My parents goal was to see that my siblings and I were educated, so our focus was to learn by reading and studying...on our own if we had to. That was and is the same goal I had for my children. They do not play sports for a living and we didn't need sports or the coaches to teach them how to be strong men of character!
Passage of the levy or not, the school is receiving funds, if some that have taught for many, many years have to retire or be cut, that is not the fault of those who voted no. Nor have they hurt the "schools, kids, sports, property value" or the "much more" you suggest. It means that those that remain will have to work harder, assume more responsibility with increased work loads like so many have already had to do when their places of employment cut back. And those that have lost their jobs...like so many before, prepare your resumes...the search is on!
Trust in God, all is not lost and the school will go on!
