We haven't had a quarterback worth two shits since Bernie effn' Kosar, and he was hardly an athlete, awkward as fuck, but smart and got the job done. Cleveland and the fans would go ape shit for RGIII. McCoy would be getting his ass boo'd off the field after two incompletions were he to get the start. RGIII jersey sales would be through the roof. It may not lead directly to wins initially but there would be excitement around the Browns org and that hasn't happened in a long time.

For me im not sure if I could be classified as an rgIII guy. But I think for me it's more fear of missing on him. If we have a chance to move u and don't, then he becomes a star... That'd hurt!!

Agree on Bradford. I think RG3 is a Ram is Bradford's contract isn't an albatross.IggyPride00;1099705 wrote:Particularly now that the rookie cap is in place.
In the old days if you missed on a top 5 QB it would haunt your cap for years, which made the miss that much worse.
Now though if you miss it is only a missed pick, instead of a missed pick that simulatenously cripples the teams ability to get better because of a mamoth cap figure.
Look at the Rams, in a perfect world they would probably love to take RGIII and trade Bradford. His cap number being what it is, not even an option as they literally couldn't afford to.
The rookie cap has greatly reduced the consequences of missing on a player, but at the same time has made trading up harder (more expensive) because teams no longer have to worry about how they are going to pay $40+ million in guarantees to a guy who has never stepped on the field.
I think what most people are worried about is not so much if RG3 busts but "if RG3 busts AND we gave up all those picks." If RG3 lives up to the hype, nobody will give a shit about those picks in a couple of years.

Yeah, I am not that emotionally attached to that 22nd pick that it bothers me that much to trade if it means getting RGIII.I think what most people are worried about is not so much if RG3 busts but "if RG3 busts AND we gave up all those picks." If RG3 lives up to the hype, nobody will give a **** about those picks in a couple of years.
THe way I look at it is it is like found money. It would be nice to use on a player that could help, but we still walk away with a first round pick in RGIII, and still have our 1st next year.
This tade would be harder to make at least for me if we were giving up our 1st this year and 1st next year, meaning we don't pick until the second round. That I don't like.
The 22nd pick is a small price to pay to get some national relevance for the first time (other than the first few weeks of 2008 when we were thought to be an up and coming team) since we came back in 99. Trading it doesn't mortgage the future or hamper our building going forward. To me it is just right place right time taht we happen to have an extra first in a year there is a franchise QB available and within our grasp.

Indeed it would. Cleveland bows out, Washington takes him and he becomes a star, turns them around quickly, while the Browns do the "prudent" thing by "staying the course", "slow and steady wins the race" and continue to tread water because, even though they now have offensive weapons, are STILL neutered by the most important positon in sports.Midstate01;1099719 wrote:For me im not sure if I could be classified as an rgIII guy. And that's what I've been trying to say. It's a bonus pick that Heckert got for THIS very reason (ammo to trade up if needed but I'm assuming they thought Barkley would be in this draft). If you can use it on a player, great...but if you need it as ammo to get the sorely needed franchise QB, you USE it.IggyPride00;1099730 wrote: THe way I look at it is it is like found money. +1. Its hilarious all of a sudden god forbid the Browns keep their picks, all of a sudden the world will end, RG3 will win 9 SBs while the Browns never make the playoffs for eternity. I thought I was a pessimistic cleveland fan, but WOW.Commander of Awesome;1099739 wrote:Lot of ifs, ands, and maybes in those possible scenarios guys. Who is to say that you can't get a lot solved and get Barkley or the next hot thing next year?

They won't. Nobody said McCoy is the franchise QB, but that also doesn't mean we need to get a QB right now or bust.BR1986FB;1099749 wrote:If they stay the course with the current QB situation you might be right.

They going to be selecting #1 in the draft? Let's say they stay the course with McCoy and he gets them to 6 wins and they are drafting 9th. Barkley is the only one deemed as the "can't miss franchise QB' in that draft. How you gonna get him? Gonna mortgage the farm for him? I bet my left nut you guys would be bitching & whining AGAIN about "setting the franchise back" or "we can't mortgage our future", etc, etc.wes_mantooth;1099751 wrote:Who is to say that you can't get a lot solved and get Barkley or the next hot thing next year?
They are NOT likely going to be selecting THIS high again for awhile. Get the QB while you can.

If they are it means we are getting a new regime and H.C, so either way now is the time to do it if you're ever going to do it.They are NOT likely going to be selecting THIS high again for awhile.

I dont think H&H and Patty Boy last another yr of 4/5 win year, so in that respect for them and their system, IMO it is almost do or die situation. Doesn't mean I agree with it, just how I feel.

It's not a matter of "get a QB right now or bust." It's a matter of "you are drafting high enough in the draft that the time is right to strike and get that QB." You may not be in this position again for awhile.like_that;1099753 wrote:They won't. Nobody said McCoy is the franchise QB, but that also doesn't mean we need to get a QB right now or bust.

Rg3 was a no name coming into this year....draft wise. Same thing will happen next year. The media loves this frenzy though

I also agree with COA who said basically the same thing but disagree with the "doesn't mean I agree with it" part. H & H know they need a franchise QB to be competitive in this division.

We def need a franchise QB to compete. I'm just saying I wouldnt agree with firing them if we weren't able to secure a QB this yr because the patheicskins throw the draft bank at the rams and fuck the browns over.BR1986FB;1099783 wrote:Exactly.

He may not have been in the limelight last year but did you see his stats for 2010? 67% completions, 3500 yards passing (22 TD's) and 600+ yards rushing (8 more TD's). Not quite as good as this season but far from pedestrian.wes_mantooth;1099782 wrote:Rg3 was a no name coming into this year....draft wise. Same thing will happen next year. Agree completely. And also, I am not saying we shouldn't make it happen with rg3, but if we don't get him....still a lot that can get accomplished

Cam Newton's success had a lot to do with the love RGIII is getting right now.wes_mantooth;1099782 wrote:Rg3 was a no name coming into this year....draft wise. Same thing will happen next year. The media loves this frenzy though
Showed what an advantage it can be to have a QB with those kind of skills, and that they can play and succeed early.

That I'd agree with. I want them to get Griffin but I don't want them to go apeshit crazy and throw three 1st's at the Rams or something stupid like that. Hell, if you're gonna do that, give the Colts a call for shits & giggles.Commander of Awesome;1099789 wrote:We def need a franchise QB to compete. And Newton is a much more physical speciman but RG3 is more NFL ready by most scouts accounts.IggyPride00;1099796 wrote:Cam Newton's success had a lot to do with the love RGIII is getting right now.

1. Everybody worries (well not everybody, you guys know what i mean) about trading for RG3 and him being a bust and setting the franchise back for years. LOL! We could stay at 4 & 22 and take a William Green, Gerrad Warren, Mike Junkin and Robiski and be set back just as far.......Nothing is a given with a player coming out of the draft.
2. Everybody worried about the rumours about the Redskins throwing all the picks and a surprise team ( I have heard Jacksonville, new owner wants to make a splash, not a fan of Gabbert , ticket sales etc, Philadelphia ....Asante Samuel, Desean Jackson 1st rounder and mid round picks, even have heard Buffalo!).....I personally think a lot of what we hear are smoke screen by the Rams...trying to get the best from the Browns...trying to rape us..... NFL network has Rams trading back to 6 AND then trading back with Seattle who would pick Tannihill.....SMH.....all speculation and the media fuels it ....but I bet the Rams are fueling a lot of these rumors

Quite a few examples why rgiii is getting the love.IggyPride00;1099796 wrote:Cam Newton's success had a lot to do with the love RGIII is getting right now.
RG3 was the valedictorian of his HS class. Graduated from college early. He also had a higher GPA in college then Andrew Luck.
Plus, me being a track guy I like mentioning the fact he qualified for the Olympic Trials as a 18 year old.
If the Browns don't get rgiii, the fans should riot and light the river on fire.
