The guys on both networks said if not for his age, everyone would have had him as a top 10 pick. If he can give up 5-7 years of solid qb play, I'll gladly take it. Look around the league, how many first rounders are really around and productive for 10-12 years. VERY few. I didn't really want weeded at 22, but it's not like it's a complete reach. Pretty sure most of you would bitch about the picks regardless of who we took.

Browns TRIED to trade up for both Floyd & Wright but were turned down.
They have already inquired about moving up to the top of the second.
There are still quality RT's to be had and a lot of WR's, especially speedy guys who can stretch the field.

Ugh don't tell me that lol Floyd would have been amazing. But what can ya do. I feel that heckert didn't think weedon would be there at 37. And that the other receivers would be there at 37.

Yeah. I wasn't thrilled with the Weeden pick but if they can come out of round 2 with a solid RT and a wr I'll be happy.BR1986FB;1154728 wrote:Browns TRIED to trade up for both Floyd & Wright but were turned down.

Good. I was pretty pissed that we didn't have the balls to be aggressive and grab one.BR1986FB;1154728 wrote:Browns TRIED to trade up for both Floyd & Wright but were turned down.

You'd better trade Colt if that's the case. Because unless you trade him, we drafted a QB controversy at #22.There are a ton of holes on this team and they had the ability to fill them with this draft. Instead they panicked giving up some picks to get be sure they got Richardson, and then panicked to get Weeden when they could have filled another hole, and probably got Weeden at 37. The QB situation, if need be, could have been kicked down the road another year while they assembled a team. I can't see Weeden coming in here and leading us to the .500 let alone a playoff spot....and we let the Steelers get DeCastro. IMO another miss. It' s tough to be a Cleveland fan.We let a near lock of an all-pro O-lineman for the next 10 seasons go to our division rivals in exchange for this guy. He's 28 years old, he needs to step in and immediately be a difference maker to justify that price.

I don't think they panicked to get Richardson at all.HitsRus;1154741 wrote:You'd better trade Colt if that's the case. The Browns were clear they would have the cash to pay 13 draft picks. They used some to solidify getting Richardson. One of those picks was from trading down last year.

I look at it this way...you were going to get a top quality player no matter what. I don't care about the very late rounders, but a 4th rounder is a chance to get another quality player. In actuality, I'm not all that much upset about that as much as picking a 29 year old Weeden at #22. If he turns out to be Peyton Manning, I'll STFU, but IMO this was a pick you don't want to miss on(again)...you need a guy who's gonna be a stud for double digit years. No way this can be that.
All you needed to do this draft was not fuck it up....just keep taking the best player available. Do you see the Steelers make these kinds of moves? No. Yet they are in contention for the Super Bowl (not just the playoffs) year after year.

Mary Kay **** reporting McCoy will be traded
What a joke this is...I'm going to sit back and watch Weeden fail this year and just smile.

I think what their plan was, was to get T-Rich, Kendall Wright & Weeden all in the first round. When Wright fell though they grabbed Weeden. I agree with all that Weeden was a reach at 22 but they got their guy.
Things I expect today are:
Either a trade up to early 2nd with the target being Hill (most likely) or Randle.
Wouldn't shock me to see them come back up for Boby Massie.
FYI...they are in the process of trading Colt McCoy right NOW. And I don't owe anyone a steak dinner. LOL
EDIT: Belichick also said that had the Browns not taken Weeden, he would've.

BTW...curiosity was killing me this morning so I listened to 92.3 to hear Booms bash on this regime. I was stunned as both Kiley & Booms were absolutely RAVING about how great this draft was. Calling them the "winners" of the draft.

Well, the last 9 Super Bowls have been won by QB's in that top 11 you just mentioned. So, that tells us the Weeden HAS to be a top 10 QB if the Browns are ever going to contend for a Championship.hoops23;1154687 wrote:I don't like where we picked him either, but he was the 22nd pick, not a top 5 pick.. Saying he needs to be a top 10 QB to justify it is a bit overboard.
I'd imagine if he comes in and is an instant upgrade to our offense, the Browns and fans alike will be pleased. As long as he moves the ball, doesn't turn it over, and gets us into the end zone, that's all that matters.
He's not going to be better than
Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Big Ben, Newton, Stafford, Vick, Ryan, Brees or Rivers...
That's 11 QB's...
All he has to do is upgrade our offense and we'll be an improved team.

Weeden will give them 6-8 good years. That's more than ANY QB in Cle has since Bernie.
They don't have to trade up to get Hill or Randle, one will fall to them

What's probably going to piss some people off EVEN more is that if they can find a taker in a trade for McCoy, I could see them drafting another developmental QB to be a backup late in this draft.

AJ Jenkins getting picked by the 49ers was huge. That still left Hill and Randle on the board. I hope they can somehow package their 3rd and McCoy to move back into the 2nd.

I don't disagree. I really didn't want Weeden, but I did say on here that I wouldn't be pissed if we took him at 37. And if we get Hill, then the way I look at it is we got Richardson, Hill, Weeden at 3, 22, 37 which I would have been okay with before the draft, I would have just assumed it was Hill at 22 and Weeden at 37.Commander of Awesome;1154803 wrote:Trading McCoy is a joke.
The only thing I guess I can say is Weeden must have WOWED H & H, and dammit I said I would trust them so let's see what the old man's got.
And while Warner inherited a much better team, I think it's relevant to point out Warner played for 11 years.

I made this exact post before Tennessee drafted Wright, as I didn't see that coming, and we knew that he wasn't going at 21.I think what their plan was, was to get T-Rich, Kendall Wright & Weeden all in the first round. I thought Weeden would be there from 28-32, and the Browns could have gotten back into get him.
People are underestimating the impact on the fan base having a new set of triplets will have as far as giving us hope going forward. On Sunday's we won't go into game now knowing that it's over if we fall behind 7-0 because our offense can't move the ball.

Pretty much have to do it. After the concussion, his daddy coming to his rescue, the botched RG3 trade only to come back and say 'Colt's our guy"...then to use a 1st rounder on a QB? It's really the only fair thing to do for McCoy at this point. Can't say the guy was dealt the best hand, personnel-wise, but you gotta make the most of your opportunities.Commander of Awesome;1154803 wrote:Trading McCoy is a joke.

Heckert should seriously consider bringing back Steinbach if he is healthy now that we have a new QB & RB. Draft a RT somewhere and a WR at 37, and suddenly we have a really solid offense and playmakers at the skill positions with a QB who can get them the ball. We have the money, make it happen.
