Personally, I thought it was a safety. Before the call was made I was screaming because I knew it would get called. It looked like he was going to get the forward progress call but he made a move. What is everyone else's opinion?

Safety.

I think if he just goes down with the first guy(#1), it would have been ruled forward progress at the 2. But since he continued to try(can't blame him) to get more yardage, the right call was made.

ok..maybe it was a late whistle and should have been stopped..but he broke the tackle, then was tackled in the endzone. therefore, safety.

It was a travesty. The whistle should have blown before he had the chance to get away from the first guy.

Safety. He broke the tackle before any whistle and was attempting to gain yardage. If he goes down at any point before breaking the tackle he is given forward progress.

Someone else said that had he broke that tackle and gone for a 99 yard TD run, the TD would have stood up.

It was a terrible call IMO.

So now, you're telling me a defender can push the offensive player back (forward progress should have been stopped there, right?) and just falls off, letting a teammate get the tackle in the endzone, it's a safety now?

the only thing thats up for debate about it being a bad call is that the whistle should have been blown sooner. however, in the events that happened, it was correct.

It was a safety by the rulebook, and not a safety by the actual play.

The whistle should have been blown, as forward progress was clearly stopped somewhere in the 3-4 yards he was pushed backwards. So the refs still fucked it up.

Really?? How many times have you seen TP get hit backward and then run for 20 yards? Come on man...

Like others have said, the whistle hadn't blown, he broke the tackle and then started to make a move. If he had been held up at the 2 instead of being driven back, the whistle had not blown, he broke the tackle, then ran back into the end zone on his own, and then was tackled in the end zone, it still would have been a safety. He doesn't necessarily have to be moving forward as long has he is not in the grasp. You must not watch a lot of football.

Getting hit is A LOT different than being grabbed and pushed back for 3 or 4 yards.

There is a BIG difference in those two scenarios.

I'm going by the rule. And the refs blew it. It doesn't even matter in the end though, so I don't really care.

Dude, get the fuck out of here with the "You must not watch football" comment.. Obviously your dumbass doesn't watch shit. When you are PUSHED BACK for a few yards, FORWARD PROGRESS IS STOPPED.

No, you aren't going by the rule. He wasn't given forward progress because the whistle wasn't blown.

It happens quite often, usually when a player is fighting for extra yardage to get a first down.

So if someone is running a crossing route, catches the pass, gets blasted by a linebacker and is forced backwards a few yards, but doesn't fall down, his forward progress is stopped? If you honestly believe that, you should stop discussing football.

K, but it should have been. I mean, even the announcers said it? You hardly see JT argue a call as well.... so....

Again though, it doesn't really matter in the end. I gave my opinion on the matter, can;t really help if you don't understand/like it...

Getting hit backward and being pushed backward are both, but what you are saying, an example of "forward progress stopping"

The opportunity for Herron to break that tackle shouldn't have existed. But that being said, if he is dumb enough to break the tackle and it didn't cost them a win then I am glad it happened to him. Got to be smarter than that. Just go down.

Even when he finally broke away from the first guy in the end zone it's not like he starting moving forward. He was immediately driven further back by 2 more guys. Therefore, his forward progress was stopped at the 2 yard line. Just because the inbred southern boy official didn't blow his whistle doesn't change that fact.
