It's pretty sad when the largest employer in a "manufacturing" town is the hospital. If Gorman Rupp ever goes under, so will Mansfield. Unemployment and urban decay are apparent everywhere in town. It is really sad.
Wow....124 miles?? Nothing in between?? I know the school systems are rough inside, but you can head to Lexington or one of the suburbs.

Obviously someone who doesn't know anything about The Ville, since there isn't much on South 7th St except houses...but it's nice to see someone able to throw out two bigoted remarks in one comment...kudos to you Mr. 300!
S 7th street has a boatload of drug dealers and crackheads that are out on the corners every night and lets not forget about the rundown homes and condemned buildings. Why do you think that there is nothing but a few old houses left in that area?

Union City
Piqua
Lima

One of those three, just depends on how large of a town we are discussing.

Gblock, what shanty town are you referring to?

I went to college in Bowling Green and now live in Temperance, MI. I've been around Toledo for the past 6 years and love it.
Shopping, Food, an increase amount of Entertainment. Toledo is not even close to the worst.

Piqua and Lima aren't nearly as bad as people are making them out to be.

West Dayton + Drexel... now there's a classy community.

Drexel is the #7th poorest area of the state...and not even all of it is counted because Dayton's city limits begin.

As a whole though, Portsmouth gets the nod. Been there once, and would prefer not to visit again.

Most of southern Ohio sucks, though.

Never been to Stubby, but from reading all of the negative posts about it there must be a reason it's got the most votes. Is it safe to breathe the air there?

I saw Alliance has a vote and I agree it isn't the nicest place to live. The guys across the street from my old college house were drug dealers and I saw some seedy people come and go. I don't think its much different than Canton or any of many other rust belt cities of its size. The city does have some nicer homes on the west side. Went to Steubenville and down Rt. 7 and I would agree that the stretch from EL to Steubenville is pretty depressing.

Yeah, Alliance isn't half as bad as that Route 7 area. It's nothing to write home about though, except that Mount is very nice--but they probably have 10-20 times more money than the city. LOL

But Canton is wayyyyyyyyyyyy nicer than Alliance.

lol You don't know Canton very well do you? Outside of downtown on First Friday, Canton is the biggest piece of decaying society that there is. The only nice thing I learned from being on Grand Jury in Stark County is to stay away from Alliance and Canton. They make SE Massillon look like Beverly Hills.

Been there numerous times. That little football stadium rocks when the tema is good. McConnelsville/Malta don't have the crime and stank that Stinkerville has. Morgan County is very depressed job wise, but still doesn't compare to the winner of the armpit award....Stinkin' Steubenville.

As much as I hate to say it, seeing as how I'm in the Bellaire area, I'd have to say that Bellaire has to be the worst.
It may not have the crime that Stueby or other bigger cities, but as far as depression and looks, it wins. (or loses)

For those that don't know, Bellaire's industry is gone. Has been for decades. Literally 1/2 of the town was wiped off the map in order to put the stretch of rt.7 in.

There are now city/town/village ordinances that forces owners to keep up building codes or to tear down crumbling buildings. There are probably (at least) 35 buildings/houses that have been abandoned decades ago and are in various stages of crumbing in on themselves.

There is such a lack of money that 90% of the traffic lights have the electricity cut off.

The police force is in such bad shape that you cannot even call the station anymore. Citizens must call 911. You cannot just walk into the station anymore, but instead have to stand outside and call in from "the red phone" to talk to anybody.

The school system has been taken over by the state.

Probably 1/4 of the fire hydrants will not work.

The Bellaire Bridge that has periodically dropped huge chunks of debris into the river and Benwood (west virginia).

And the list goes on and on. The list I made above just covers generalities.

^THIS is what we're talking about with the Route 7 area. There aren't many places in the COUNTRY as bad, for real.

I know Canton fairly well, the only thing I said about it was that it's wayyyyyyyy nicer than Alliance. And it is. Didn't say it was the greatest place, but Canton isn't that bad. If you think Canton is bad, you're in for a surprise if you ever travel out of the area.

I'm tellin' you guys, make a trip to East Liverpool and tell me you don't throw up on the street. Liverpool, Bellaire, anywhere down in that area. We aren't talking bad like you just think where you live is boring/poor/etc., we're talking bad like it's literally hardly livable.

Route 7 isn't "pretty" on that stretch because of all the industry...steel mills, power plants, etc..

I guess if you're from some prissy place, then it might be ugly to you.

I'm not sure where you hang out in Canton, but theres only a handful of spots I'd even think about going to. 90% of Canton nowadays is pure ghetto.
