Just finished "Tigerland" by Wil Haygood, the story of the (Columbus) East High School Tigers, who won both the state basketball and baseball championships in 1969, and the societal turmoil that shaped the players. Fantastic book, extremely well-written and engrossing. My wife is a first cousin of the one of the starters who played on both teams, so it was a chance for me learn more about her family , and also about an era I was unfamiliar with.
Also finished the latest Jack Reacher novel "Past Tense" by Lee Child. It's a look into Reacher's family's history, in particular his late father's past, which is not what it seems to be. Not quite as violent as the previous novels, in terms of Reacher constantly being challenged by local toughs and international goons (before easily dispatching them and righting injustices everywhere), but still pretty interesting if you're a fan like me. And plenty of black coffee is involved.
