Has anybody been following this guy? Supposedly throws a 102-103 mph fastball and is projected to also be able to hit 30+ HR's. Imagine a potential every day player who could also start on the mound every 5 days? Signed with the Angels....

Pittsburgh Pirates offseason notes:

Well, it was a nice run of three straight postseason appearances and now, back to working on another 20+ season streak of futility because the team was too cheap to strike when the iron was hot.
Damn...Angelf

Sports Illustrated reporting Stanton heading to the Yankees.
Judge/Stanton/Sanchez is like a modern day Murderer's Row.
Derek Jeter buys Marlins and immediately trades elite player to Yankees.

Lol, not that I'm complaining. So far, the two best things happening for the Pirates in the offseason are:
1. Ohtani didn't pick the Cubs.
2. Stanton didn't go to St. Louis.
When your team refuses to do anything other than take a flyer or two on reclaimation projects, while hoping your own minor league system can single-handedly build your team, your best wins are when the other teams you're competing against are not getting who they want.
How pissed is Boras right now?
He was counting on the Yankees next year to pony up $400 million plus for Harper.
If they can't even play in free agency it will make it that much harder to drive up the price or use his "mystery team" gimmick that he has employed so well over the years.

This is depressing. Indians' run was fun while it lasted.
I wouldn't go that far; if the team that bought a WS every year actually won it, there wouldn't be much suspense to the season. An injury here, an off year there and the Yanks might not be the juggernaut they look like on paper.

The scary part is that apparently they will be able to add him and still reset their luxury tax number from 50% down to 20% by getting under the threshold.
From what was reported for cap purposes his deal will only represent like $22.7 million a year, and since they are taking back Castro and eating some of his money it will cost them very little "new" money.
Being on the hook for Stanton for like $240 million (after the Marlins portion and early buyout option) beats the heck out of paying Harper like $350-400 million like Boras wants.
Only for the Yankees is taking on Stanton a "value play".
This seems completely impossible
I thought that both Morris and Trammell were HOF worthy, maybe because they owned the Tribe during that stretch

I think the timing of when they hung it up and the steroid era taking over before they were eligible hurt them some

Wow, that's pretty crazy. No HOF teammates in a 20 year career?

According to articles from Japan that is way overblown and the comparisons to babe Ruth was something createdby the US media.
By later Thursday, Cashman and Hill traded ideas before it started to become clear that if the Yankees included Starlin Castro and the Marlins sent $30 million back in the trade, then for luxury-tax purposes Stanton would account for $22 million, essentially the same as what the Yankees paid Castro and DH Matt Holliday in 2017.
For all the talk of the Yankees "buying" a title when you look at the numbers in that scenario is just good business. Castro and Holliday made $24 million combined last year. Stanton will make I think it's $27 million this year.
They will put a young guy who costs nothing at 2nd and for a few extra million they added a 60 home run talent smack dab in the middle of his prime.
Stanton's contract also might look quite reasonable this time next year when Harper and Machado sign. I think that played a large factor in them doing this deal.
