I haven't been following this situation that closely. What's the issue?

Urban fires Smith due to the civil restraint.

Smith assualted wife in 2015. Urban said he was unaware? Now reports are saying he knew?

 

Pretty much. So he knew of allegations? He isn't a judge and jury, the police have that job handled. I hope he doesn't go down for something stupid like this. The one guy says he has text messages from 2015 between Shelley and the wife...who the hell saves messages for that long?

I just read the FB post that started this. It's not good.

Yep. He knew all along and kept him on. Then it came public and he said he never knew. Not a good look urban...

It seems like a dumbass thing to lie about though.

Someone got text screenshots of Smith's wife texting all the coaches' wives about the abuse and wanting to get away (including pics of her with bruises and blood on her), including Shelley Meyer. So Urban said he didn't know, despite how his wife and her were texting back and forth about her situation with Smith.

Doesn’t make it any better, but there is no actual proof that Urban knew. Just that Smith’s wife contacted Shelley and other wives.

True. If he really did know the extent of this and did nothing, than I could see this being a major problem. Why would you defend this loser, I don't care how close to his Dad you were

edit: ...and it might be time to take a little hiatus from Facebook, cause the haters are coming out fast and furious already--and this story hasn't even hit the mainstream media yet

So here’s what I don’t really get..

Let’s all pretend that Urban knew. Hasn’t it already been reported that the school/proper authorities were notified? So there really isn’t an issue. Other than keeping an alleged spouse abuser on his staff. 

If Urban's wife didn't tell him, then I think it's a really, really bad look for her. 

Oh, it’s a horrible look for Shelley. 

But also, Smith's ex-wife is alleging that basically every single person/school/PD dept knew about the abuse. So I’m not really sure why this falls on Urban all of a sudden.

agreed---and as far as Shelley goes, one report stated that Smith's ex asked Shelley if she had told Urban, and Shelley told her no--and she then told her not too and that she "had it handled". Maybe @spinnershells thought Urbs would have 'plausible deniability? I like her, but I can see her crying in front of the cameras now...

I took it more as you were saying there was a “report”. Basically a “sources say” type thing. We’re on the same page. 

I THINK they can basically throw this all on Shelley. Which is horrible. But if she was notified of what supposedly happened, it’s on her to make the calls to the higher ups.

it's going to be a chaotic 48 hours, that's for sure

Honestly, I don’t think Urban makes it through this. If for no other reason than the public outcry for his head on a platter. 

I think he ends up gone. I think it’s beyond a reach to claim “maybe he didn’t know”. But I think the whole thing is a little ridiculous and I’m not gonna pretend to be outraged. It’s not like he helped sweep anything under the rug. Police were aware, police investigated, no charges were filed. I don’t think this is worthy of termination, but if he gets booted for lying then he dug his own grave.

Paid administrative leave.
