Question #62:

Three players who played in the '90s have amassed at least 200 HRs and 2,700 hits over their careers.  All three have been out long enough to be eligible for the Hall, but none is in, despite never being suspended for steroids.

Who are they?

Dave Parker fits criteria

Not sure if Johnny Damon hit 200 HR but he was often one of my surprising answers in my old school trivia days

Yep.  Those are two of them.

The third is a little bit of a trick.

For Parker, I had to say "for steroids," since he was part of that whole cocaine thing in the '80s.

Beltran?

Too few hits.  2300ish.

LOL  He did get the suspension commuted for donating part of his salary, so he didn't miss any time.

The key to the trick for the third player is "suspended."

I know Beltran cleared 2600 hits. I know 2300 isn’t right

Hmm ... no, I'm not.  Not sure How I missed him.

Well hell.  I'll take him.  You obviously caught something I didn't.

The other was Bonds.  Was never "suspended" for PEDs.  We all know he used them, but there was no official suspension.  His 2005 was derailed by "injury."

Oh, wait.  I said they'd been out long enough to be eligible for the Hall.  Beltran isn't.  That's why he wasn't on that list.

I had my spreadsheet filtered by stats up to 2014, so the 2,300ish hits was how many he had up to that point.

My guess was Sheffield. Either he was suspended and I missed it, or he falls JUST short of 2,700. Because I watched him get 2,500 and he played a bit longer.

Just short.  2,689 hits over his career.

Question #63:

If you can believe it, only three HOF hitters have ever had even one season in which they hit 55+ HRs and batted .350+.  One of them never even won an MVP award.

They're all in the 1900s, don't worry.
