You can now buy cannabis legally in Ohio

Tested out the process tonight (in Newark). Prices are CRAZY high right now, but I assume they will come down over time. I checked prices versus Michigan for essentially the same product: $38 here, $13 there. The process is a lot better in Michigan as well, you have to do your buying from an ipad instead of seeing everything out in a display. Took about 15 minutes, there were 4 people ahead of me. Overall a fine experience, but anyone within an hour or two of Michigan is probably going to make the drive.

The first guy to buy in the state lives in my neighborhood (it's pretty big) at the shop closest to my house. The dork spent the night in his car, got there at 6pm to be first in line.

Have you bought anything in Ohio yet?

I went to The Botanist on Vine street downtown and got a half ounce of weed and 10 gummies for 140$. Not cheaper than street prices but for quality and safety purposes it was worth it. I went Wednesday about 2 pm there was no line.

That's less than $50 in Michigan unless you got something fancy. The prices in Michigan came down quite a bit from first to last trip. Hopefully Ohio sees the same decreases.

My friend said the place in coshocton called story, has buy one get one for a penny on MWF.  That would be about on par with Michigan. I probably won’t go back for a while until prices go down. This will last me 6 months pr

Flower prices are currently very high. They had some crazy sales for medical the last couple of months to make room for the new inventory grown in anticipation of the recreational sales started this week.

As it stands, Ohio weed will never compete with Michigan’s just by virtue of sales tax. My county has a 7-1/2% sales tax and after adding the 10% cannabis tax you have a 17-1/2 % tax out of the gate. Michigan tax averages 16% but has an established competitive market for about 4 years. The way it is controlled in Ohio, the prices will come down considerably but will never get down to Michigan prices in less it becomes legal federally and can be imported from other states and countries.

By having a medical card, I circumvent the 10% tax and also receive a 25-30% military discount. I have bought ounces of popcorn or shake for as low as 85.00. I could get the same up north for as low as 60.00.

Medical marijuana is regulated as much as any other medicine and is reliably safe. But on the other hand, I haven’t had much problem with illegal weed other than a laced with opium ( that was some wild shit ) and some that was sprayed will Paraquat in the early 80’s. It also has another perk. On Wednesday, I went to the dispensary and about 20 people were in line. When I checked in with my card O went right to the front of the line. This pissed some people off and was an odd source of amusement for me

Doesn’t really interest me, especially if the price is 2-3x that in Michigan. Maybe someday but not anytime soon.

I also don’t know anything about it. I’d have as much comfort and competence in a dispsensary as I would on the moon.

Might check one out for curiosity, but will stick with my long-time purveyor.

It sure is. It’s medical. There is too much weed right now.

I met a woman whose friend owned dispensaries in Michigan.  She said one thing that is difficult about the business model is that since weed is still against federal law, most banks are off limits to dispensary business because of FDIC insurance.  Is this true?

It sure is. The FDIC rules are in play, but federal forfeiture laws are even a bigger concern. If the feds see cannabis money in an account, they can seize it and you have to prove your money is innocent of any crime proceeds

I would not like handling all that as an owner.

They had multiple door locks you had to get through and only allowed one actual customer in at a time in the pick up and pay part. You had to be let out as well. It felt like being in a bank vault a little bit .

Welcome to the club Ohio!

I've dabbled with the med stuff in Ohio. It was always quality. Hopefully rec is the same.

CO dispenseraries are all cash too. They manage.

Haven't gone to the closest one yet due to still having a decent amount on hand and a friend who can hook me up whenever. Might make an edible trip, though, to see what all they have and for what price compared to another friend who can hook me up with those.

Not all edibles are created equal. Prices vary wildly.
