Dec 26 bargain shopping?

Is this still a thing?  My parents and sister were big on this for many years.  They'd get up early on the 26th, leave at 6 AM,  stock up on wrapping, and brag about what other goodies they found at ridiculous prices.  I went out a few times, but usually just slept in.  I did score big on a couple of those lighted village pieces about 20 years ago, but that's it.

And the newspaper used to have big ads on Dec 25 to tout those marked-down specials.  My father still gets the Cols Dispatch delivered, but this year they announced there would be no editions printed Dec 24-26, and also Dec 31-Jan 2.

I expect they'll be shutting down more and more on holiday weekends throughout the year, just before they quit printing it entirely.

See this thread is getting as much action as the same one ya put on Yappi!

More recently many would go to use their gift cards, but now I think Amazon is ruling the roost.

Retail, is dead.

Oh, I don't know.  Got more response on both sites than I expected.  And you must have been bored enough to be one of them, lol.

Can't disagree about retail or Amazon.  But I did learn (both on OC/Yappi and from friends) that plenty of folks still make the annual trek for Dec 26 bargains.  More than I thought, but less than I remember.  I think the focus now is Lowe's, Home Depot, and Walmart.  Maybe Cracker Barrel if they ever mark down their yuletide swag.

Had my eye on Balsam Hill's flip tree after seeing their TV commercials - pricey.  For a 6.5 tree with clear lights, was $1099, color lights for $1699.  Today I notice they're marked down to $899  and $1099.   Might jump on that color one next year.

Early January bought 4 boxes of tree lights for about 1/4th the normal price at HD.
