Anyone working on anything interesting these days?

Could be at work, house project, hobby, whatever. Anyone out there creating instead of just consuming?

I've got a project at work that's several years in the making finally getting real world use and I couldn't be more relieved. Added bonus, we're getting positive feedback from the group using it.

At home, we're finishing up our basement at the moment. New flooring, new furniture (namely a new chaise sofa), and a new 65" QLED have turned it into a nice little movie room.

I am also planning/building a keezer (chest-freezer kegerator) currently. It'll start with two taps, but can expand to 4 in the future. I've got a 5-gallon batch of a brown ale finishing up in the fermenter now that will be ready to pour in about 2 weeks. I'll post some pics when it's done, but I've been wanting to build one for years and am finally getting the opportunity to do it so I'm pretty excited.

I'm also thinking of building a wall mount media stand for the basement tv over the weekend. I should be able to pull off the idea in my head with a sheet of plywood and my pocket-hole jig.

We're finally finishing our kitchen remodel. We started planning for it like 18 months ago. Bought a new fridge last December and have been using it for a year, but now we're finally getting around to painting the cabinets, putting in a new floor, putting in the rest of our new appliances and new countertops. The guy actually came out and measured today and they'll be installed early January. I'm looking forward to it all being done. Our former kitchen was pink and floral. Like pink counters, floral tile backsplash, pink door and trim...just truly hideous.

That's our last big home project.

Feels like surviving with a 1yo and 5yo is work enough.

I don't have anything much at home. But at work I've been on night shift for going on eight years - essentially my entire career. But I'm planning on switching to day shift this coming Summer. I've enjoyed night shift but man is it killing me the last year or two. Especially my nights off. Doesn't matter if I go to bed at 10pm or 1am -- I'm constantly waking up around 3:30am then can't get back to sleep. Makes for some challenging days when it's just me and the kids.

Just started my first "real" part-time job after retiring nearly 4 years ago - working as an airport weather observer for the FAA.

Actually, FAA contracts that work out, so I'm working for a company based on the west coast. The pay is quite generous, the physical and mental stress is non-existent, and the view from my perch in the control tower is tremendous. Was hired to work 2 days a month, so it's just about the perfect job for me to earn a little extra to set aside for whatever.

I have a few things that will be continuous, then hopeful things.

Started an amateur soccer league (November 2019)
Started a goalkeeper glove company (April 2019)

Then...

Would love to do a bathroom remodel
Will do some garage organization and shelving

And, I second it that surviving with kids (almost 6, 5, 2) feels like a major accomplishment.

Are you manufacturing them? My mother in law used to work for Hochmut and they manufacture goalie gloves for umbro, puma and Adidas.

I am not. I actually just utilize an English glove company that I had a connection to. They wanted to branch into the US, so it made a ton of sense for me.

I've turned into a plant guy, after being a murderer of plants for years. Turns out I didn't know wtf I was doing, along with buying the absolute wrong kind of plants.

I have around 12 so far in my apartment. I'm still not an expert, I recently killed a really nice corn plant and a two year old snake plant varietal. My gf is still pissed about that, but it happens.

We're trying to be plant people.

We can't seem to keep a palm living, we've killed one and our current one is on life support. But we're doing good with everything else. We have a split from a jade plant our friend gave us that is doing very well, as well as several pothos and a snake plant.

Palms are tough in our climate/weather from what I've heard. I may go for a Sago Palm, but wait until spring.

Fortunately, one of my closest friends owns and operates a very well known flower/plant store in Manhattan. So they are my advisors.

I'm having issues with humidity now. My #1 plant so far is a Peace Lily. I've had it for 6 months and its fucking massive. Almost too big for the planter. It's showing signs of low humidity, black tips. My apartment is insanely dry, so I've been browsing for humidifiers than can cover the entire place.

Finished one "project" this week...one student loan paid off! Woohoo. Now one more to payoff...in 46 months. :/

Now that’s sound like my kind of gig about 8 years from now. You’ll have to clue me in.
