Impressed by the Trump administration part II

“Because of the President’s tenacity and focus, this is an indisputable win for our country and a momentous day in the U.S.–China economic relationship,” said Timmons. “It is a remarkable turning point for manufacturers, with the unprecedented and enforceable commitments on critical intellectual property protections to which China has agreed. The NAM looks forward to…working with the administration in holding China accountable for its ambitious commitments. Additionally, we are committed to achieving more progress in reducing trade uncertainty as the focus of the administration and the NAM now turn to ‘phase two.’”

How refreshing to have a president actually do something in the best interest of American workers.

If Trump is to be credited with the Dow's performance, should Obama be credited for its performance during his first term when it grew at a rate slightly ahead of the rate it has during Trump's term-to-date?

Yes, but I'd prefer it be called out for the bullshit it is, in both cases.

It is kind of apples to oranges.  Obama came into office with a market near the bottom - the recession ended less than 6 months into office.  After a big bear market like that you'll have big gains in the years immediately following.

Trump has passed some pro growth policies that have produced pretty remarkable gains considering he took office nearly 8 years into an expansion.

That said, both have inflated the market with artificially low interest rates.  And it's hard to say the market might not be similarly overvalued as it was in 2007.  While the Great Recession was triggered by a liquidity event and never economic fundamentals, I think we were due for a big market correction regardless.

It's happened twice already in 2000 and 2007.  Doesn't appear we've learned our lesson yet as we continue to overinflate assets with easy money long after it's ceased to be necessary or useful.

It's an overly simplistic measurement of someone as president.  However QO cites it often.  So I just wanted to see if he extends the same logic to Obama.  I'm sure he does not.

I agree with that.  The are better, more direct measures of the economy.  Markets are, theoretically, forward looking several years into the future.

Jobs and GDP growth.  And, I suppose, deficits and inflation - the latter hasn't mattered substantially in decades, and the former doesn't seem to matter much to either party in the WH, any more.

John Bolten - another conservative wi was in lockstep with Trump and then all of a sudden, for reasons known only to God, began a career as a raging liar against Trump.

Bolten is threatening my liberty!

He’s got a book to sell …don’t ya know.

He’ll be under the bus with Balsey-Ford in about 10 days, just another victim of the left-wing democrat/media alliance.

The great left wing/media conspiracy - smart enough to ensnare people like Bolten, but not smart enough to fool you!!!!

If there was ever a time I would agree with you...it is this. I still remember Bolton from the Bush years, where he was a lying, war hawk, asshole hell bent in invading Iraq, Iran and North Korea. He was also a dick and an asshole at the State Department and at the UN. His coworkers hated him.

I take whatever that fucker says with a huge grain of salt. He may be pissed about getting fired or maybe he just wants to screw Trump.

If the Ds are suddenly loving Bolton for what he heard, they are completely forgetting all his bullshit during the Bush years. Fuck that guy.

All those things about him and Trump still hired him. Amazing how anyone that used to work for Trump becomes an untrustworthy asshole.

Bolton is just as big of a part of the swamp in DC as anyone.

Agreed. The guy never seemed to see a war he didn't want to join in on. Yet Trump seemed to think he was worthy of hiring.

Trump picking him was dumb, but he was already an idiot and a fucking asshole. He didn't turn into one because he used to work for Trump.

I will also say, most former officials do put out a book about their time in an administration. But, this timing is highly suspect. Also the one from Bolton's time in the Bush administration was full of bullshit.

Watching people falling all over each other to suddenly start humping Bolton's leg is pretty hilarious.

It is.  It is equaled by watching people fall all over themselves to be the first to call him a liar and asshole.

Except for all the people who have been doing that for years, yeah.

Unfortunately for himself, Trump just started recently.  You gotta admit for all his "drain the swamp" banter, Trump's been pretty comfortable surrounding himself with some of the swampiest of characters.

If "they" want Bolton, give him to them, but "we" get both Bidens.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.  If he hires outsiders he is crucified for bringing in people that have “no experience, no idea how Washington works” etc…etc…   If he hires insiders he is crucified for bringing on people that are part of the swamp.  No matter what Trump does he is vilified. But whatever obama did, was unquestioned and brilliant.  Simply hilarious.
