Social welfare programs that are paid by taxation does not allow for this to happen fairly any more.  Illegal immigrants are a drain on the system now unlike before.

100 years ago you had to come and actually succeed to survive.  you had to assimilate to America by learning the language and follow the laws of this country.

Like immigrants before, most "illegals" bust their asses to make a life here. Exceptions exist just like they always have. But the experience of every European group that came here AFTER the original settlers is eerily familiar - "they don't speak the language, they take jobs away, they're a drain on the system". Most lazy good for nothing's would never undergo the risks and effort it takes to get here. I look around my community and see thousand of hispanics busting their ass doing tough jobs for long hours. These people deserve our respect and welcoming because they're what our country is supposed to be about.

They didn't just show up. It took many of them years to prove that they had a sponsor in the United States and had employment. Then they had to go through inspection at Ellis Island. Only a small percentage from each country were allowed in yearly.

Most large groups of European immagrants did in fact just show up. That is exactly what they did. They came before the entire concept of "legal immigration" became formalized. Had they been forced to immigrate "legally" as defined today, a majority of those admitted would have been turned away.

You are completely wrong. I had several relatives come over in 1910's and 1920's. It took many of them years to be accepted. Then they had to go to Ellis Island and go through another approval. They had to have a sponsor who would vouch for them and be responsible for them. They also had to prove that they had employment lined up.

Prior to WW1, It was an open door. Between wars, there were quotas that were first come first served. There were more people than slots, but those who got in had to meet minimal requirements that almost anyone could lie their way around. Lots of southern and eastern Europeans came in via Canada (maybe Canada should pay for a wall too).

To the standards of "the right way" as they are today, no one from those days had to meet anything close to that. Except Asians which were forbidden. They were feared to be criminals, social support users and they didn't speak the language. Sounds familiar.

I agree. One way someone shows grit is to risk all to get here.

You are the most consistent right wing radio/Fox talking points echo chamber I've ever seen.  Once these sources start stressing a topic, you can almost count down from 48 hours until you start posting it here.  Yemini terrorists, Biden renting expensive hotel rooms, funneling money to drug cartels, rapists and gang bangers pouring in, etc.  Look into some of this stuff before you regurgitate it like a mindless drone.

I get that you don't want the "mexicans" in here.  Even though it was okay for your ancestors to arrive on our shores unannounced, it's not cool for Latinos to have that same opportunity.  They've got to do it "legally".  Fortunately for you, your relatives didn't have that same requirement.  Fine.  Just accept that these people make you uneasy and are an easy target for frustrations of you and like minded people.

I have no problem with anyone coming here legally, on our terms.  Many of them have better work ethics than the lazy asses sitting at home right now sucking off taxpayer stimulus checks and business-paid unemployment benefits ..........that shit has to end immediately.

Yeah you do. Because you supported the Trump administration which drastically cut the amount of legal immigrants that could come here. So, yeah you do.

Also you support making it as hard as possible to become a legal citizen by not allowing anyone that is here to even apply.

Way to go off of a horrible stereotype. The illegal immigrants, I have read, met, and work with are very hard working people trying to make a living that really want to become U.S. citizens. But, the system is so fucked up they have little to no chance to become one.  One guy I work with recently became a U.S. citizen. It took him over 10 years.

Finally, some of you all on this site, need a lesson on U.S. immigration history.

The point is the "our terms" have changed dramatically from when our relatives came.  Had the terms been then as they are today, a huge chunk of us would not be here in the US.  "I'm in, now lock the door behind me."

Biden on guns, almost 50% inaccuracies, and his orders do almost nothing to curb violence.  Also said no Amendments are absolute (imagine the outrage if Trump said that). And now wants to figure out how to pack the Supreme Court, which would destroy the trust in it. Good thing he doesn’t mean tweet!

We need to suspend all immigration for 2 weeks to flatten the curve.

Did Joe Biden actually use the fact that slaves weren’t armed, and that the govt disarmed Native Americans as justification for 2A restrictions? Because holy shit, if so...

How absolute are the 13th, 15th, and 19th Amendments, I’m wondering?

Nice Friday EO dump.

I wouldn't read anything into it. It established a 36 member panel commission to study the issue. A commission to study an issue is Washington speak for punting on an issue. The commission won't issue their findings until probably next year, in a mid term year. That means any recommendations are dead on arrival in Congress.  The EO is just to punt on the issue so that Biden could say, hey I am doing something.

No Amendment is absolute. As in, an Amendment can be changed or amended. We have had several Amendments that have been changed or amended throughout US History. It is really hard to do it, but that was by design.
