I feel like LOST is way above some peoples heads. Some of my friends have no idea what is going on in the show and it annoys me to try and explain it, because it is too much to explain. You either follow what is going on or don't watch IMO.

Yeah, he touched them in the universe that we know has been going on since season 1. The universe where they are not married is the alternate universe that was created after Juliet detonated Jughead in "The Incident." Two separate realities.Sonofanump wrote: Please riddle me this:

I was surprised to see Desmond re-appear. Will be interesting to see what his role is going to be.

Someone mentioned the cork in the bottle. I think the purpose of the man in black not being able to leave the island is not to unleash a powerful evil on the world. IOW, keep the cork in the bottle=keeping the man in black on the island forever.

^^ He is talking about the "cork in the bottle of wine" metaphor from the episode Ab Aeterno, where Jacob told Richard that the island is the cork in the bottle, keeping the wine (evil) from escaping and engulfing the world. At the end of the episode, the Man in Black breaks the bottle.

Oh ok yeah I knew what he was talking about when he was talking about the bottle of wine. I just re-read what he wrote and I understand now. I misread it last night. I thought he was saying something different.ohiotiger33 wrote: ^^ He is talking about the "cork in the bottle of wine" metaphor from the episode Ab Aeterno, where Jacob told Richard that the island is the cork in the bottle, keeping the wine (evil) from escaping and engulfing the world. I kind of thought it would be Desmond coming back to the island. I remember (can't remember what season) when it was said that Desmond is special. There is something about Desmond that makes him more significant than others on the island. I'm not sure what that is yet, but I remember he had visions in season 3 and also was the first to time travel (before the island was "moved").

By far, the best and most though provoking episode this season. Something crazy is about to go down in the flash sideways timeline.

I still liked the Richard episode the best this season (lots of answers), but this was a great one and it shows how the 2 storylines will come together.

Richard's episode was great in a sense that it answered questions, like who he was, why he didn't age, and what his "job" was on the island. But, that episode really didn't further the storyline much, where as this episode certainly did that. Ill say they are 1A and 1B in terms of best episode so far this season.

I disagree. The Richard episode answered more than just what he was about. It let us know more about the feud between the man in black and Jacob. It set this episode up too. Richard saying someone was coming to the island (I assume he meant Desmond).jtownclassics wrote: Richard's episode was great in a sense that it answered questions, like who he was, why he didn't age, and what his "job" was on the island. Gamechanger tonight guys. Wow, Desmond-centric episodes always deliver don't they? A lot of stuff to ponder on tonight. Desmond is aware of the two timelines, and Faraday is aware that he may have been the cause. There is going to be a lot of resolution in the end, and I am pumped.
The book Jacob was reading in the season 5 finale, right before Locke fell out of the window: Everything That Rises Must Converge
I think it was an early foreshadowing of the two timelines merging into one.
Great, great episode. It goes right up there with Ab Aeterno and The Lighthouse this season.

Merging or spliting? I get that some (I expect more once Des gets the 815 manifesto) are aware in alternative universe that there is another. But the look on Desmond's face when he was done being magnitized and when Sayid showed up gave me the impression that he knew which universe he wanted and what needed to be done to achieve it.ohiotiger33 wrote: I think it was an early foreshadowing of the two timelines merging into one.

Dez will end up going around to the Losties in the ALT and putting them in positions to get what they really want (Jack being a good father, Sawyer gets Juliet, Hurley gets Libby, etc...). He then goes to them on the Island and convinces them that they have to sacrifice themselves for the good of mankind, but it'll be ok since they really get what they want in the other timeline. They will begin to see flashes of thier previous timeline, just like Dez did last night, once they become aware of the 2 different realities. Just my 2 cents.
Dez is special because he was in that hatch when he blew the failsafe, surviving the electromagnetic deal, and sending his brain into the time-jumping situation we saw in the Constant. This is stems from The Constant, the Losties will need to find their constant in order to set themselves into 1 timeline (the new one we are seeing this season). I believe Dez or someone cause the island to sink, trapping the MIB, and that's how the show ends - sacrifice for the good of mankind, but knowing htey will be set-up to get what they desire in the ALT timeline.

While I liked the episode, this season is frustrating that you can go weeks at a time without seeing some of the characters. I mean last night, no Jack (not counting his 10 second cameo) Sawyer, Kate, Ben, Sun, Claire, Locke, or most anyone else. Hopefully the next few weeks has more people in it and begins to work everyone and everything together.
Had to know Desmond and Faraday were the special ones out of everybody. Now that they know about the alternate timeline and that they may have caused it opens up a lot more possibilities.

^^^ Every season of lost has been exactly like this. They have so many characters, they can't fit everyone in every episode.

^^ No it hasn't. Go back and watch seasons 1,2 and 3 and it is totally different than it is now. I love this show but you never went weeks at a time in the first few seasons where Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley, or Locke weren't on the show. Even if they weren't the central figure of the episode, they were in the show in some capacity.

Season 1, they would have some big reveal about Locke, say, he found the hatch. They would address that issue several episodes later. At the beginning of season 3 there was the opening episode where the post-hatch explosion was shown (Desmond naked, locke mute, etc). They didn't address what happened with any of these characters again until over 6 episodes later.
And yes, the main characters have all had a decent few episodes they haven't been in over the years. Don't use IMDB, because they count how many times a character is listed as a regular as to how many times they have appeared.
On Lostpedia:
Jack: has not been in 8 episodes
Kate: has not been in 13 episodes
Hurley: Has not been in 15 episodes
Sawyer: has not been in 16 episodes
Locke: has not been in 20 episodes
Sayid: has not been in 22 episodes
Sun: has not been in 31 episodes
This was one of the main problems the show had in season 2-3, and why it started to lose its following. There would be a cliffhanger with one storyline, and those characters would often not even appear for an episode or two. People began to get fed up with this, though it was necessary as there are over 10 main characters. Go back and watch, and you will see exactly what I mean. This is especially true with Desmond-centric episodes- very few other characters appear in them, and ironically it is usually Faraday and Charlie that do appear with him in his episodes.
Season 1 was the only one where they were pretty much in a group the entire season, though Locke was only shown sporadically, and more towards the end. Season 1 was also the best season of the show.

The writers are obviously brilliant but for some odd reason I have a feeling the show won't end great and there will be unanswered questions.
