I think Jack will replace Jacob and Sawyer will replace the black cloud monster aka the man in black. Saywyer wants to kill jack but because of the rules will not be able to.

I also think you can look at island and figure people will be replacing others such as claire / russo.

How do we know that Richard was on the blackrock did i miss that?

I can understand the Oceanic survivors ending up there, since the flight was to L.A., and it makes sense that most would have some connection to the city, but Danielle? How did she and her mother, from France, wind up in L.A. This better be explained soon.

Yes I get the purpose was to show how in a different reality Ben did not sacrifice Danielle in order to gain power, and I thought it was a great look into his character.

I expect that they will explain why everyone was brought to L.A., and what is so special about this city. I thought maybe it could be a city of angels type thing and perhaps this is "heaven." Though it has been repeated many times that the remaining living characters are not dead.
I think the point is this:

Fate would have brought all these people together, island or not. All of these characters were destined to meet in the real world.

As far as how Widmore found the island? My guess is that he just asked his former "wife" Eloise Hawking. She runs the Lamp Post station which can find the island.

Did the French crashed on the island prior to the "incident", so Danielle would have been rescued by Dharma and left to go to LA when everyone else departed?

Is it 1977 or 2004 in that scene?

I believe he said he hadn't been back to the ship since it brought him to the island.

I think the closing scene from this seasons first episode where they are all walking off the plane will be the exact same closing scene on the final episode. All of the events of the crash and post crash will go away somehow and the plane will make it safely to LA.

It's 2007. All of the stuff going on on the island right now is in 2007...all of the ALT reality stuff (LA) is in 2004. Widmore simply followed Sun or any of the original "Losties" and then tracked Aijira 316 probably.

I think next weeks episode will be the beginning of the "answers to all the questions" promised this season. I have always wondered more than anything who or what Richard was. I really think knowing this will be the key to figuring things out.

...and they better be clear answers too! We better not have to rack our brains trying to remember crap from 3 seasons ago...or look for symbols and crap like that.

Has Richard been off the island since he arrived in the mid 19th century?

If not, I wonder what is alternative universe is.

I don't think so, I think the Man in Black is just playing head games with Richard for him to kill Jacob. I think he made his wife appear, similar to making Jack's father appear in the past ...

Pretty solid show tonight that answered one of the biggest questions of the series. They need to build on this episode for the rest of the season since tonight was pretty good.

The writers of this show outdo themselves on a weekly basis. This is an episode that is literally like none other in the entire series. How do they always do it? Great episode full of the deeper mysteries of the show.

Tonight's episode was solid. I like the episodes that deal with the past like this one did. 7 plus the 2 hour finale left. I have a feeling the 2 hour finale will be spectacular.

The show writers/producers stated previously that it was not hell nor purgatory.

At least we know now why Ricardo never ages and is so mellow about everything.

Still trying to absorb everything else in the episode. I'm guessing Hurley is the next leader of the island.

Hurley is a good call for the next guardian. He is very underrated in the fact that he does a good job of keeping people calm and together. The obvious choice has always been to make it be Jack (at least thats what they want us to think) but he is just to emotionally unstable. I can't see it being Jack, Kate, Sun, or Sawyer (who am I missing for the 6th candidate???). I like the choice of Hurley.

The only big twist I could see to that is if Jack becomes the force of good for the island and Sawyer takes over for the "Man in Black" and they continue their rivalry for the rest of time.

And I still think Aaron has a huge role to play in this. Maybe Aaron is the guardian? A lot of characters have simply been written out of this show but they always are careful to keep a mention of Aaron in about every other episode.

And last...something big has to happen with Ben Linus. I wonder if he is actually the mastermind behind the whole island and has pitted the men in black/white against each other. Maybe he put himself on the island just to watch the festivities.
