I'm just glad the black suspect was targeting white officers so we don't have to hear about hate crimes or racism in the next few days.

Thousands of sniper assassins worldwide sounds pretty credible to me.

It's being reported that one of the current sniper suspects was an Army vet.

I can almost guarantee at least one of them spent time in the military. As I said earlier, shooting isn't like in the movies where anyone can just pick up a weapon and hit people at long range, and when I heard the audio, how the shots were controlled at first.......I figured that at least one had to be prior military

I concur.
Why do they always have to say 'white cop shot black.....'

This is why this person or persons were able hit so many armed police. Its not because they were out gunned as I hear some in the media say. It was the military training.

That's the sensationalizing media. They've only recently made a completely shitty effort to be less glamorizing and sensationalizing of the lone-wolf mass shooters. Maybe eventually they do that (and much, much more) with cop shootings.

There are plenty of questionable shootings, but mostly only the ones with the race angle make national news. Perception is reality, and it's a very one-sided coverage that is presented for consumption.

Exactly, also if they were up high like they say, it really is difficult to know where the shots were coming from especially in an urban area with echoing. There is a reason why a sniper can stop a whole company in their tracks because they have the high ground and to able to fire back and subdue someone in an overwatch position can be very difficult and almost impossible from the gorund

Buddy of mine mentioned this to me while we were waiting at WPAFB this morning regarding cops killing people....

WHen he was deployment in Afghanistan the last two times their rules of engagement were they were not allowed to shoot until they were fired upon or at the very least had a weapon pointed in their direction.
Yet many of these police killings are happening when they guy doesn't even have a weapon.

How does it make sense?

Are there many killings where the deceased is unarmed or doesn't attempt to take the officers weapon and is shot?

I know there have been a few where people have had heart attacks or suffocated while being arrested/tased but I can't think of many where they were shot

It sounds as if one was an Army Reservist.

He had a gun. Or at least said he had a permit to conceal carry.

Dont pull away from a cop if youre being arrested...you will be shot. If I am a cop, Im shooting someone who pulls away also. Not letting them go get whatever weapon they may have.

I think I get the context of what you're saying. But you can't possibly think that a person pulling away from warrants you pulling your gun on them. I would think that you would pull your gun if that person were coming at you, no?

Fortunately he's not a cop.

When people resist, especially since a lot of these confrontations are 1-on-1...a cop is put in a tough situation where he has to make choices. Cops being killed (51 in 2014 - feloniously killed in the line of duty) probably outnumber the number of people killed in bad shoots.

I believe he just said had a permit but didn't have one on him. Get what you are saying about someone pulling away......but does pulling away warrant taking someone's life when you can easily follow and knew who it was?

Not that I agree with it, but some police jurisdictions even follow high speed pursuits if it gets past certain speeds so they are Ok with letting that person go but in other instances ya can shoot the guy?

I am behind law enforcement and authority 99.9% of the time but I am trying to understand if there are other options.

Reservists don't get to shoot often (we go 2-3 times a year) but he could have been prior active. I know some only shoot while on duty but many take it on as a hobby and shoot more than some active duty folk.

Did a tour in Afghanistan. Told police that he had been training for this.

In the video in this article its very obvious his training allowed him to take out this policemen at close range with a rifle while taking fire. You can see incoming rounds hitting the concrete columns. Probably why law enforcement decided to use a bomb and just blow the guy up.
