I'd like to use the thread as a way for everyone to keep up to date on the latest and greatest apps for the droid. Its hard to keep up with all of them and I'm always asking people which ones they have because I don't want to miss out. So post what you have, give a description and if you get a new one that is good, let us know.

What I have-

Advanced Task Killer- Let's you check which apps you have running and give you total memory available and allows you to kill apps to keep your phone running smooth.

Antivirus- My Verizon guy said I should get this because a lot of apps are user programs. I run it after I d/l a new app..so far no problems.

AP Mobile- News from AP wire.

Backgrounds- Thousands of free backgrounds..some very cool ones.

Brightness Level- Widget that allows you to change your brightness level on the fly to help battery life.

imusic- Free MP3s. Good quality. I have the free version but there is a paid version which is considerably better from what I have heard.

LineMonitor- Gives updates on current lines and line changes. Can be customized.

LiveScores- The best score updater I have found yet.

MabiloRingtones- Ringtones.

MLB Headlines- Widget for those who love baseball. Especially during this time which so many players changing teams. Brought to you by ESPN.

Pandora- Internet radio

Scanlife- Barcode scanner. Everybody always talk about these..I've been unimpressed with them. They never find my products.

Shazam- Turn this app on during a song that you can't place...listens to the song and spits our title, artist and album info. Very very cool. Maybe my favorite of the group.

I also have a couple of soundboards..when I get a text message, Michael Scott says, "That's what she said." Good for some laughs.

Those are some good ones. In addition to those, may I recommend:

SportsTap: You can pick up to seven teams to add as your favorites, and then add the widget to your home screen. You'll get a notification every time your teams play...and a tone plays at the end of each quarter (or half) to give you a score update.

Instead of Scanlife, try Shop Savvy: Scans the barcode and then as long as your GPS is on, will scan the area around you as well as the internet to find the lowest price. You can then tap the place with the price, and the Google Navigation will take you there.

Qik: A great app for people far away from home. It turns your camera into a live stream video recording. I give the address to my family, and they log onto the computer back home and can see exactly what is happening through the lens of my Droid. Really cool for sharing moments with people far away from home...or for starting your own porn site I guess.

Just an FYI. I had antivirus as well thinking it would be useful. The update either yesterday or the day before slowed down my Droid to a standstill. I read that antivirus was the issue on another forum and proceeded to remove that app. Since then my phone has gone back to working normally. In case yours starts to slow down this may be why.

Any netflix apps yet? I was looking the other day and it seems there are a few, but maybe not officially approved/recommended by Droid.

I'm breaking down. There are too many cool things that phone can do to put it off any longer.

Bump - exchange contact info with other Android phones by bumping them together
Craigsphone - Craigslist app

Favorite Recipes - just as it sounds

Issuu - magazines on your Droid. Nothing great yet but I am keeping it for its potential

Missed Call - strengthens the vibrate of your Droid. I never could tell when it vibrated before
OpenTable - make reservations at restaurants through your phone
Photoshop Mobile - edit pics you take
TV.com - Watch CBS shows on the go
Word Search - a "sit down" game for sure

I only have a few. its just as easy to open the browser and get everything instead of downloading an app that is very specific to only one thing. the ones i do use though are:

Backgrounds- simple enough
Shazam- Listens to music and gives you the name and artist
ShopSavvy- Scans barcodes and finds you the best deal
Shot Tracker- golf app that lets you measure the distance of your shots
Ultrachron Lite- basic stopwatch and timer
Zedge- ring tones and sounds

Is the droid on sprint as the Hero?

Www.4shared.Com place to go to get the Apps that cost for free. For example documents to go(pdf,excel,word,powerpoint) normally 30 bucks. Also tons of games and other apps.

Just look for files that end in .apk you can download straight from phone. All apps are checked for any viruses also.

Android is where it is at. Google is releasing the Nexus One on Tuesday. The first true "Google" phone . On tmobile. Also checkout the sony xperia x10. That phone is the real deal.

No. The Hero is made by HTC. The Droid (by Motorola) is a Verizon exclusive.

However, Verizon also released the Droid Eris...which is essentially the Hero. Both run the older Android 1.6 software...and neither has a physical keyboard like the Motorola Droid.

Sherm any inside scoop with Sprint phones? I'm antsy cause I have the Touch Pro which I just had replaced the 2nd time due to over heating. Some how I'm not getting lucky in the replace TP with TP2 as I've read in so many message boards.

I left Sprint back in September. Now I work for Motorola. So I don't have too much inside scoop for upcoming Sprint phones. Now if you want to talk Nextel...I could probably drop some info. But nobody likes Nextel...so I don't have any good info. LOL.

Same story...as soon as I installed the update it went to hell..uninstall and back to normal. A small bit of irony that an antivirus product would actually make your phone run as if it had a virus.

Is it capable of Flash? With all the ads I've seen for it, I've oddly never seen "DROID DOES FLASH." I know this is the one big drawback of my Blackberry, and I know many other BB users who feel the same way, which is why I ask.

Where- a good app for finding points of interest around you.
google finance- has widgets that to track stocks... the DOW ect.
ring droid - cuts up songs into ringtones
Retro clock- digtal clock, better than the analog clock widget droid comes with (anyone find a better clock?)
speedtest.net-tests your data speed... helps me determine if I should use wifi or not sometimes and it is interesting to challange ur iphone owning friends to a speed test on their "better 3g experience."

I need more apps with good widgets.

Droid runs android 2.0.1

And droid does not do flash.

But i can talk and surf the web at the same time contrary to what ATT says

The Droid runs Android 2.0 (aka Eclair). It is not capable of Flash yet, however the January or February update will come with Flash.

The Droid Eris (VZW) runs 1.5 NOT 1.6. According to some rumors, there will be a firmware upgrade to 2.x once HTC updates their Sense UI. The big drawback to 1.5 is no google goggles or google navigation. Hopefully the update comes this month.

Correct, there was a December update but it was for 1.5 and it was NOT a version update.

do you have to use WiFi? haha because when i saw the commercials i called myself from another phone and tried and the 3g goes away and doesnt load anything. not that it matters to me because i would never use them at the same time anyway. i am either near a computer or driving.

not sure which one i was on when i tried it... but who cares no one does that anyway.

I did a quick Google search while I was on a call just to see if I could. It loaded the search results like normal and I didn't bother actually going to a site, though.

Those commercials are really reaching to rip on Verizon, to be honest.

- Most popular phone (the iPhone) - The result of good marketing ... not necessarily quality ... and I'm in marketing.

- Lets you talk and browse at the same time - I don't remember the last time I had a need to do that. If ever, I would bet my house I could count on one hand the number of times I've wanted to.

- Lets you keep your minutes - The typical AT&T customer does not use his/her rollover minutes, so it essentially costs AT&T nothing to say that. Moreover, with Verizon, there are so many people who are either "IN" that almost everyone I know is on a low plan, as they never dip into their minutes much. Hell, last month, I used more minutes checking my voicemail than I did on calls with people not "IN."

I had AT&T. Coverage was NOT as good, but more importantly, customer service was not nearly as good, either.

I don't mean to sound harsh against AT&T, but I'm just trying to be straightforward. Essentially the difference between AT&T and Sprint as far as size and popularity is one little device: the iPhone.

Anyone have any weird battery issues. 2 times now in the month i have owned it the battery has all but died(or atleast thats what it tells me) but when i plug it charger, it goes from flashing red and telling me its below 5% to fully charged in a matter of a minute or two. i charge it every night when i sleep, dont have anything running in the background like wifi or the gps unless i need it. normally when i goto bed at night its never been below 50% on the days where i do talk a lot.

That happened to me once Glory Days.

I have heard from a few of my coworkers that the phone will sometimes give a false charge indicator. You can pop it on the charger, or just reboot the phone and it will correct itself.

It's been mentioned a few times, and will probably be fixed in the next software update.
