And if you think the staff isn't going to do all they can to get Domer & Owens the ball as much as possible, then you really don't think much of the staff....but I think we're all familiar with your thoughts on that subject.

And the OCC is a D2/3 school, you're exactly right. We're a D-5 school now if you didn't know. I know it's been a while since you left town.

Keep in mind that we seem to always struggle with numbers....we'll never be a program like in Massillon that can run 11 guys on the field and 11 guys off the field.....but in those smaller numbers has always been an abundance of talent. We're down from what we're used to...but our coaches and kids won't use that as an excuse, but that shouldn't prevent us from looking at the situation realistically.

We've got some kids that might surprise us all. Some young kids will get an opportunity.

D5 school most def can have 3-4 guys going both ways pretty much all the time and maybe even a few more who go both ways at times. Gotta have your best players on the field and if that means a few do double duty then so be it.

A few go both ways??? The norm in Orrville seems to be we have 5-6 (if not more) kids go both ways. It's how we've done it forever. If we have a guy go down...it impact both sides of the ball and special teams usually too. A key injury is like losing 3 kids.

I am pretty sure the coaches will get Domer the ball. I am also sure they are going to do all they can to score points, and stay healthy...Wow if they only thought of this stuff last year. Come on guys we are blessed to have the staff out there that we have.

I was being a little conservative I know! Our local school is D5 and usually 3-4 both ways 100% of the time and a couple others in certain situations. Coach isnt afraid to use the QB on defense and special teams either. I always laugh at the beginning of 2 a days when some local players say their coaches want to two platoon and no one going both ways.
That lasts maybe through the first scrimmage as the coaches realize they need their best to do double duty

I had this exact conversation with a long time Red Rider last night. He could not believe the lack of numbers or talent. We spent a lot of time talking Volleyball and Girls basketball which I think is going to be what keeps all the Rider Fans happy the next few years.

I'm thinking your right about that. The Orr girls vball team recently won the 72 team Maumee Bay tournament. We looked in mid season form. We'll still have to get by Triway to advance to districts but were looking good for the Summer.

Courtney Avery from Lex played as a frosh...he went on to play @ Michigan on scholarship.

Hoobler & Monheim played as frosh & they went D-1 too.

Excellent point. Our numbers are low so we have to play young kids and maybe kids who put in ZERO summer time work, but have talent. At big schools with numbers & depth, those kids wouldn't make it to equipment handout.

There's less pressure playing soccer in Orrville. No one cares if they don't win a lot of games.

Also, you have youth soccer leagues finally starting to impact sport choices of kids in Orrville. There have been youth leagues in Wooster & Wadsworth for a long time, but it's only recently where Orrville teams, not just a few kids, are competing in these leagues. Kids playing soccer since they were 8-9 yrs old.

Add the concussion stigma that football has (soccer has its risks too) and you have a lot of parents who simply don't want their kids playing football.

Makes me sick!! All I ever wanted to do as a kid was play under those lights in Red Rider stadium. We have to keep the young kids interested and excited to play football early on! We are losing kids before or at the middle school and that can't happen.

RR1 makes a good point. The other thing that I would add though is many times the father didn't play football so its more likely his son will not play either when it comes time to strap the pads on and knock heads. The game is physical and demanding....those are two words that kids just don't want to hear these days!

We don't get to use the youth league problem both ways. I feel the pee wee system is hurting the football program. However, interesting to see that it may be helping the soccer program.

Old Rider- It took a doctor or two to keep us off the field back in the day...today it seems as if the kids are looking for a way out (many not All).

There is a feeling walking onto that field that nothing can stop you. People who have experienced this know exactly what I am talking about. All pain just went away. It is something that I hope my kids get to experience.

First day of practice should be underway. What are the actual numbers?

I also didnt see our local team out practicing today either in the morning like they normally would so I am not quite sure what is all going on.

Can't afford to get a injury, there are maybe 30 players. One injury and we will be worse than we already are going to be., plus all that means is they can put pads on a few days earlier

Pretty much this.

Triway practicing at 12:01 is like midnight madness in college basketball. Mostly ceremonial.

Some of our coaches take that week of vacation so they can be there for 2 a days.

I bet most programs start Monday. This was day 1 for all fall sports, but I bet most crank up on Monday.

Won't stop some for holding this against Davault though. We should get used to this....

Agree the first day is the first day. This is pathetic. We can't get hurt so let's not practice at all. Just show up on Friday night. This is the worst garbage I have ever heard on this site.
