Justin Jackson staying at Carolina. Not much of a surprise, but he was projected as a 2nd rounder.

It's a step up, obviously, but I disagree with the move.
While it would be a clear financial windfall for Smart, I agree that for whatever reason the move to Austin just doesn't seem like the right fit for him. The Texas job seems more compatible with Greg Marshall, perhaps because he's coached in Big XII country for so long, I don't know.
The truth of the matter is that both Smart and Marshall have likely reached their coaching ceilings at their respective schools and if either is looking for that next step up, to seriously compete for national titles on a more regular basis, Texas would offer a better opportunity for that.
With as close to retirement as Roy Williams probably is, the move makes less sense for Smart, who's been rumored as the leading candidate to replace Williams for a number of years now (that is if UNC does in fact select a coach outside of the family). Smart has a good thing at VCU and can easily bide his time there while he waits for his reported dream job to become available. Going to Texas, and all the work that such a move would require in terms of just starting over at a new program in far less familiar recruiting territory, doesn't make a lot of sense in that context.

Im REALLY hoping that the rumors of Marshall to Texas if they came calling were true. Because, in my irrational mind, I have a working theory that it has fallen through because he got wind Tom Crean is going to be fired and he will then go to Indiana. He is waiting out for that, thus Texas has moved onto Smart.

Is that realistic? I mean IU firing Crean?

Indiana is obviously a destination job, but is that really Marshall's dream job? I wasn't aware of that previously. If that is the case, then, like Smart and his apparent interest in North Carolina, perhaps leaving for Texas isn't a very sensical move. Because even if Tom Crean is not fired this year, I'm confident he will be soon. The guy is not fit to lead a program of that stature.

No, but Marshall has said openly he would NOT go to a bigger conference unless it was a "top dog" in that conference. He has also openly said that he is willing to move on from Wichita, but not for a place like Alabama (hence why he turned them down so fast publicly).reclegend22;1718098 wrote:Indiana is obviously a destination job, but is that really Marshall's dream job? Rumors were swirling for awhile. Then the AD, Fred Glass, said no. But, who knows. My guess is no, not this year. But another year like this, it will be impossible to keep him. Donors want him out though, as doens 80% of the fan base.wildcats20;1718095 wrote:Is that realistic? I mean IU firing Crean?

Marshall was planning on visiting Bama on Friday until he reached an extension last night. I don't think the "zero interest" thing was true at all.Laley23;1718100 wrote:No, but Marshall has said openly he would NOT go to a bigger conference unless it was a "top dog" in that conference. Yeah I heard the opposite. I heard he's struggling with the Alabama offer because of how much money it is.
Yeah you would rather wait for a blue blood, but why not take the huge money now and wait for a blue blood to open up? That blue blood will pay whatever "leave fee" there is at Bama.

7 year extension, 3 mill per year with the Shockers. I heard Andy Katz on radio who said Marshall has it very good at Witchita State in terms of rescources and them giving him everything he has wanted such as a private jet and such.SportsAndLady;1718174 wrote:Yeah I heard the opposite. Wichita doesn't give him anything but salary. The Kock brothers provide anything else he wants.
And I think 3 million a year versus what Bama was gonna offer, around 7, shows how much interest he actually had in leaving...just my thoughts.

...and if you're halfway decent, it's almost guaranteed job security. Look at Billy Donovan, Thad Matta and Rick Barnes (17 seasons and major job). At a blue blood, 4 or 5 first weekend exits in a row and you're toast.
IMO, a mid-level power conference job that is a football school but will pay you top 5 in the industry is a dream come true.

In great news, via twitter I read that after tonight's NIT finals, Bob Knight will no longer be employed by ESPN as an announcer.
The doors are open for another former coach to mumble his way through broadcasts while occasionally yelling at fans to sit down.

Enjoyed BK as the announcer. Have actually watched games that I would not usually watch when he is doing the broadcast.Heretic;1718277 wrote:In great news, via twitter I read that after tonight's NIT finals, Bob Knight will no longer be employed by ESPN as an announcer.

Exactly. Something to be said about job security. Going to Alabama is like many coaches taking an NBA job......where ya just are basically waiting to get fired.Azubuike24;1718270 wrote:...and if you're halfway decent, it's almost guaranteed job security. With them beating Kansas that could also give him a little more leverage with some recruits.

My point was that an Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio State, Texas, Florida...those are GREAT jobs, if you don't suck.

And by the above I clearly meant Marshall is going nowhere and Jans will get fired for getting shitfaced and yelling/sexually harassing at people at a barts1227;1716940 wrote:I figure it is way premature, but I've already seen shit saying that if that is true, Wichita already knows they want Chris Jans from BG. Happened at a really good gastropub in town that reminds you of a place in Wrigleyville honestly. Not only was there the booty slap that night, he grabbed a chicks head and tried to put it down by his dick. He then was confronted by an season ticket holders daughter who tried to tell her he wasn't the coach. A few minutes later he called the girl a bitch and the season ticket holders attempted to fight him but a few assistants broke it up, they coach was then kicked out of the bar. They emailed the AD and sent him multiple videos of the incident soon after
He lives right off #16 tee at Stone Ridge, have seen him outside a few times while playing there so if anyone wants a house on a golf course around here

I've been to BG several times and have been to basically every bar there. Nothing about it or its bars are similar to wrigleyville (a place that 200 yards from my apartment). Hope this helps.Classyposter58;1718432 wrote:Happened at a really good gastropub in town that reminds you of a place in Wrigleyville honestly. I severely doubt anything in BG deserves the distinction of gastropub, regardless of what the place may call themselves.
