Off the subject of staff, but a buddy and I were talking today. I'd like to see Meyer implement the option pass game that Tress used with Smith.

No, CBF just has confidence in the head coach. A head coach witha proven track record. Confident he will replace Vrabel with another quality coach. And absolutely confident, that Meyer will continue with top 5 recruiting classes.lhslep134;1565639 wrote:CBF seems to be pretty ignorant of the importance of quality recruiting assistants, at least that's what I've gathered from his "whatever" attitude about Vrabel's departure.

This would be pretty big, known as a great recruiter, and has turned out some damn good d-lineman at PSU.

Plus he's been coaching for 17 years, he could probably handle a coordinator position.

You do know this isn't the RB, Larry Johnson. This is a guy that has been coaching defense for 17 years, he would probably just be d-line coach, but i'm sure he could handle a coordinator position.bases_loaded;1566899 wrote:Is he ready to be a coordinator?

Rumblings on Twitter say it's almost finalized. Homerun hire in my book.

Sarcasm. I'm aware of who he is. Just thought if they needed to dangle a carrot, the D coordinator position would be a nice one since he's leaving Penn State because he didn't get the head job.se-alum;1566921 wrote:You do know this isn't the RB, Larry Johnson. Out of the park home run. Was listening to Bill King this morning (he's broadcasting live from the AFCA meetings in Indy), and he said this is creating the most buzz among the coaches. Also said this would be a HUGE hire. In Urban We Trust.se-alum;1566933 wrote:Rumblings on Twitter say it's almost finalized. Homerun hire in my book.

Thus the reason I wasn't overly concerned about losing Vrabel. Coaches want to coach for the best. They want to win. They want to get paid and OSU is not forking out some major bucks to assts. like the SEC has been doing. Its a desirable place to coach. With Meyer leading the way, OSU is going to be an attractive place to coach.vball10set;1566973 wrote: In Urban We Trust.

This is definitely a writing on the wall hire for Fickell. Top 10 defense this year, Fick, or you will be replaced...by someone who is already on staff and ready to be D-coordinator.

Why the LOL? You don't think Vrabel was a quality coach and recruiter? Luckily for OSU, they replace him with a suitable coach/recruiter. But to LOL because people were concerned about losing him is dumb.Automatik;1567013 wrote:But butttt Vrabel!! lol

Definitely a quality person to have on staff. Like CBF, I was confident OSU would find a suitable, if not better, replacement.
I didn't fault Vrabel at all for going to the NFL, nor did I get worried, concerned, etc. about his departure. Assistants come and go...we'll manage.

I don't disagree with that. But I don't think it's out of line to be "concerned" about losing a good assistant, at least until you know you have a suitable replacement.Automatik;1567020 wrote:Definitely a quality person to have on staff. Believe it or not, sometimes the replacement isn't as good.

Luckily? It wasn't luck. As I said, OSU/Meyer are always going to be able to bring in quality asst. coaches. Just as UM is able to. There are a handful of schools able to do this.WebFire;1567018 wrote:Why the LOL? You don't think Vrabel was a quality coach and recruiter?
