Well, it's all over but a meaningless bowl game where Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins will likely shred the OSU defense. So, let's move onto next season.
The loss of Carlos and the o-line is gonna suck, though I think Elliott will be a big time back, and with all the other RB's, I'm not real worried about that position. It will be interesting to see how the o-line plays out. I would expect Decker, Eflein, and Boren will definitely be starters, and there's a good chance Farris will too, not sure who the 5th guy will be. I'm still worried about our LB corp, especially if Shazier leaves, which I assume he will(wouldn't be surprised if he didn't though). Josh Perry and Cam Williams have not shown that they can be difference makers. Trey Johnson didn't get much time to show us what he can do, but I think he makes it into the starting lineup next year. Mitchell is a question mark, but I think if he adds some weight, he'll be a good one. We really need to land Raekwon McMillan. Onto the secondary, we will be pretty inexperienced, but I think will be overall more talented than we were this year. Grant will obviously start at CB and Powell at star or one of the safety positions. That leaves Apple, Burrows, Reeves, Bell, Tanner, and Conley for three positions. Have to believe that Bell will have every opportunity to start at safety. Honestly, I don't think Reeves and Tanner will be in the mix. Apple, Burrows, and Conley are all big enough to play safety, so there's 3 guys for 1 CB position and 1 safety position. The d-line will be the biggest strength of the team next year.
So, what are your thoughts?

^^^add to the DB mix Jayme Thompson, who showed a lot of potential during spring training and then had season ending knee surgery (ACL)..I have to figure he'd get a look as well.

He could be in the mix, but those other guys have a lot of experience over him at this point.vball10set;1550586 wrote:^^^add to the DB mix Jayme Thompson, who showed a lot of potential during spring training and then had season ending knee surgery (ACL)..I have to figure he'd get a look as well.

Seeing the impact he made on that Central D compared to this year, I think it's safe to say he is going to be a key piece of this OSU D in the futurevball10set;1550586 wrote:^^^add to the DB mix Jayme Thompson, who showed a lot of potential during spring training and then had season ending knee surgery (ACL)..I have to figure he'd get a look as well.

I was excited by the Withers hiring because his secondaries always had a lot of interceptions. Now that I know they got them by playing soft coverage and hoping the QB made a bad throw, I'm ok with him leaving.

I agree this is not a loss by any measure. The whole Fickell situation takes on a different perspective now. Urbie will not do anything until after the bowl game.

Lets see how Fickell does as the only coach. If this D doesn't improve, cut and run

Again, this is what frustrated me about all the "Fire Fickell" crap. Most people didn't realize there was another coordinator. Fickell's name was easy to throw out there because he was so well known as well as being on the sideline. From what I know, Fickell was in charge of the Dline and LB's. Withers was the DB's, passing defense.
The link above wouldn't work. So I am not sure what is going on with Withers. But as mentioned above, I'd like to see what Fickell could do while in charge of the entire defense.

Got it. Thanks! Dont' like losing a recruiter like Withers. But with Meyer's recruiting record, I am not too worried.vball10set;1555775 wrote:^^^try this

Pretty good pay for a co-D coordinator.

Damn straight. Going to take a big cut in pay if he takes the job. But maybe the writing is on the wall as well.rrfan;1555785 wrote:Pretty good pay for a co-D coordinator.

So a friend of mine had a tweet about Fick going to Notre Dame to be Kelly's d-co. I thought, "what the hell?" So I googled it. Found some truth to it. That Kelly wants to possibly add him.

Shazier gets a 2nd-round grade from NFL Draft Advisory Board. Could definitely see him coming back now.
