Might as well pile on while the chance is now. Out of all of the really elite coaches in college basketball over the years, and Roy is really elite, I cannot remember any of them being on the losing end of more 25-point steamrolls than Roy Williams. Just this year alone, Roy's club was down 31 to Butler and trail 68 to 40 right now. Even last year, during a national championship contending season, the Heels dropped one to Florida State by the score of 90 to 57.

Roy certainly knows how to win in style -- two natty's is remarkable for any coach -- but he also knows how to lose in style too. Damn.

They have been hesitating most of the game.....like they don't expect to have a shot opening. Strange

Neb win 79-63 over Wake
And Mayrland shoots 67% in the 2nd half to dominate 77-57 over Northwestern.

B1G up 3-2 right now.

Guess all the Carolina guys went to bed.

In all seriousness, the Tar Heels are in legitimate jeopardy of going to the NIT for the fourth time in the last 13 years. Roy Williams is a great coach, but he has proven that he's not the most consistent. The "all the eggs in one basket" philosophy might get him again. Roy needs to coach this team a different way, a way that is more suited to the personnel he has, and forget about the running style he so dearly loves if he wants to the save the season. He tried it in 2010 after the mass departures from the '09 title team and he apparently didn't learn his lesson.

I think this team will be better than the 2010 team, but only if players like Bullock, Strickland, and McDonald show up and compete every night. Tonight, they were awful, and the entire team gave up once IU started to make a run. The freshmen are gonna get better, but it's up to the "leaders" on this team to set the tone. I think by the end of the season, Carolina could be pretty good. But if things start to spiral out of control, there's not enough raw talent on this team to compensate. Guess we'll see what happens.

I'm gonna try and save face a little bit after my tirade above (karma is a bitch, as we all know) and agree with you. Also, there is no doubt in my mind that had P.J. Hairston been available, he would have left a serious imprint on this game. He's not worth 30 points, but the Heels did hold serve through the second half without him. With him, the cards may have fallen differently. You never know.

With that said, the 2010 UNC team had a HOF head coach, six Mickey Ds and three first round '10 NBA Draft picks. I'm not sure how that team went to the NIT.

Well, that was fun.

Cody is so damn good. Not just stat wise, but just such a complete player with amazing body control for a 7'. He and Burke battling for POY in the B1G will be fun to watch (Thomas MIGHT have some say).

Overshadowed by the beat down in Bloomington but Minnesota impressed me last night. Tough to come straight from an island tourney and put a team like Florida State away, on the road, in their fourth game in six days, with Mbakwe still working his way back from sitting out last year.

While the Gophers may not yet be ready to be seriously considered for a top-4 spot in the conference (Still have it Indiana-Ohio State-Michigan-MSU) they will not be an easy out, provided they can stay healthy.

I agree. Minnesota's victory was the most impressive victory of the night. On the road and playing their 4th game in six days the Gophers defeated a physical Florida State team rather easily. I was not surprised by the outcome, but I was suprprised the way the Gophers controlled the game from start to finish. Great effort!!!

How does Wake Forest get hammered at home by a team that lost to Kent State at home by 14 points? The Deamon Deacons must really suck!!

Is VT for real? We will find out on the next 7-10 days. They play Okie State on the 1st at home and then travel to Morgantown to play WVU.

All 3 will have the stats. I think POY goes to the team who wins. IU and UofM are better than OSU at the moment. Obviously extremely early. But, imo, I dont see them winning over ether of those teams. Which is why I said MIGHT.

UNC lacks scorers. I should say lacks confident scorers.

There is nobody on their roster that has stepped up to become consistent scorers. Not even McAdoo. Shut down McAdoo, let PJ shoot NBA range 3's, watch the freshmen refuse to try to score, win the game.

Definitely impressed by Minnesota.

Saw an interesting tweet last night from Lunardi (I think), that said it would probably be easier for Minnesota to make the Final Four than to crack the top-4 in the B1G.

That's probably a fair point. When you have three top-5 teams, you have to finish at the top of the rest of the bunch (which includes at least three top-25-caliber teams) over the course of 18 games. Making the Final Four means you likely beat three top-25-caliber teams (in 2nd round, Sweet 16, Elite 8) in three straight games. This league is ridiculous right now.

And there's a certain logic to it, if for no other reason than how in most years it seems like there's always that one team from a power conference who finished in that 9-9/10-8/11-7 range record-wise and then makes some sort of tournament run (maybe not Final Four, but close and definitely farther than you'd think a middle-of-the-road finisher would get).
