Peter king is now reporting the deal isn't really all that close. Btw Mortesen is the worst at breaking stories. He wants to be first so bad he wrong 50% of the time. Look like it was more of a power play by the NFL to make it look like the refs are the ones holding up the deal not them.

With the announcers on ESPN, CBS, FOX and NBC continually hammering the refs I take it the big wigs at each network are worried the product will become lesser, therefore losing sponsorship and are encouraging this....and when they come back they'll tell us how great they are. That will probably bother me.

I agree with your 2nd paragraph. The NFL has all the networks scurred.

Week #1 Refs pretty good with a bout of missing some defensive players getting away with some small stuff...and called a few penalties the wrong name.

Week #2 Refs ho-hum but are obviously focused on the label and ruling of each penalty and take too long IMO due to the completely unnecessary nit-picking from week 1....game flow off a bit.

Week #3 Refs were not good at all. Pressure from the announcers, fans and coaches in week #2 got to them and now they are second-guessing things and since "they lost control, due to players trying to intimidate them" are calling everything.

Nothing can convince me that overall in week 1 and 2....they were just as good as the regular guys. I'm also convinced all the scrutiny from about every aspect greatly affected their week 3 performance.

I heard one coach say he had no problem with the refs and he appreciated them admitting that they missed a call.....but several coached just seemed to try and bully these guys. The players after loose ball scrums were just disrespectful bratty like effers. "you lost possession because you sucked and got the ball stripped....now be a man and get the hell over to the sideline"

I'll be so glad when this shit has completely passed. I enjoy sports....not continuously hearing about the guys officiating them.

Main thing I saw last night was creating a development program for 20 extra refs, as opposed to just training them immediately and giving Goodell authority to "sub them in". So that was a compromise.

I believe the money in terms of pay remained the same for now, but goes up yearly (nothing exciting )

What it means is that as soon as a team gets screwed by the regular refs, the fans of that team will be harping for the replacement refs to come back.

lol exactly. The replacement refs were bad, but this is one of the most overblown, over dramatized episodes ever. The regular refs make tons of bad calls too, everyone was just completely focus on these refs waiting to point every little detail out. No they were not as good as the regular refs but the regular refs make tons of terrible calls too.

Props to the regular refs though. They manged to get a raise, and also made themselves out to be the good guys in all of this. I would say they are the winners out of all of this easily.

Not like this particular group will have the significant impact an AFL - CIO or UAW would have but the theory is the same. I suppose the "blue collars" that clamor for NFL tickets can celebrate this decision but intelligent sports fans should recognize this cave by the Commissioners ofc as the BS it is.

I find the idea that these "boutique" unions have any significant impact on how business in conducted in this country more than a little silly.

Yes, they made mistakes. But so do the regular refs. The replacement refs had no shot in hell. The media had an eye on them from the start and looking at the whole situation with a magnifying glass. The coaches and players were trying harder than ever to push the rules to the edge but then complaining about the excessive amount of penalties.

Heck, even one of the most notable and well respected referees (Ed Hochuli) has been at the center of a controversy that is honestly extremely comparable to the Green Bay mistake (and he had the experience of years and time).

San Diego vs. Denver. Rivers fumbles ball, Denver recovers, but play was blown dead. Play was not reveiwable. If that turnover was properly awarded with the call on the field Denver could have gone into victory formation and won.

The past incident was a call on the field (not reviewable under current rules) that directly affected the on-field result.

No refs are perfect, are the regular ones probably better? Yes, because of years of experience and what they have gone through to get there. Were the replacement refs the worst thing in the world and the downfall of the league? No, but the reaction of the media makes it seem as if the regular refs would never make mistakes or penalties were up 10 fold.

The majority of NFL stadiums are filled every Sunday with 75% of blue collars who love to dress up in Dog Masks, Mad Max gear and wear team jerseys with their own names printed on the back. Then you got 20% of rich-wanna be hanger ons who suck off the remaining 5% true power brokers residing above the steaming masses in their glass enclosed private boxes. Those 75% are plumbers, auto workers, pipe-fitters and Teamsters (who couldn't separate their own assembly line existence from a bunch of Attorneys & Stock Brokers who have a really cushy 2nd job giving them another $150K / yr) and the 75% screamed bloody murder because they thought these rich douche bags were a "Union" like themselves.

Mitt was right in identifying the 47% which is where most of this NFL 75% reside and it most likely cost him the election because these idiots will vote for a guy just because he's not the rich guy (even tho this other guy is black...which really bugs the shit outta most of 'em). And that boys & girls is how the Replacement Refs problem was solved.
