It's embarrassing that Indians fans haven't been showing up lately, they have shown some promise over the last year and there is a lot of young talent on this team that is worth watching. Although they weren't necessarily good last year, you have to admit there was some genuine excitement surrounding the team.
And one. Good post. For having the 10th lowest payroll, the team actually has done better than I ever thought they would. As for last year's collapse, a lot of it had to do with injuries. Choo, Sizemore, Santana, Cabrera, Pronk..all out for months, not weeks.... several pitchers as well.
This year, they've done a lot better than expected as well...except for the POS Ubaldo. They have a better record than Philly, the Yanks and Boston...payrolls ranging between 178 and 197 million per year (top 3 in baseball). If the tribe gets decimated by injuries again this year, look for another free fall.. If they stay healthy, and find a replacement for Ubaldo, they might make the playoffs. And then, who knows?
If I lived in the Cleveland area, I would probably go to 10 games a year....easily. As it is, I make it up there maybe twice.
As for Perez' remarks, it's a 2 way street. It's true, Detroit shouldn't be outdrawing Cleveland by a 2 to 1 margin...but they do. Part of the equation that Perez failed to mention is that their owner spends money on stars (Cabrera, Fielder, Victor)
Perez will bide his time here....and then take over in Boston or New York.
