Yes we won the scrimmage, yes they barely moved the ball on us, yes we ran the ball well. it costs you nothing to give 100 percent effort. it costs you nothing to show some intensity. it costs you nothing to give your all. we go through the motions. no intensity from ANYONE except four plays. youve had a whole offseason to sit on a bitter loss and that was the effort and intensity you showed the first time you get back on the field? not good. the varsity should watch the jayvees very closely. that team was fired up to be out there, hooting and hollaring, gang tackling, running hard, hitting hard. the varsity mustve thought they could get by on talent alone. today yes. against struthers no. nothing i am saying here has anything to do with the staff or game calling. this is simply an intensity problem i am seeing. the jayvees played how i expected to see the varsity play. with some hunger and anger. i was expecting to see us come out like we did last year against east and i was disappointed. good team but the best i see with the energy level where it was today is 6-4. Like one of the Lowellville kids said in front of me..."struthers is going to run through campbell, i thought campbell was better." that said it all for me.
Campbell not being physical enough is one of the negatives I came away with. Other than that Campbell didn't show much on offense, running out of basic pro sets. I am sure there is much more in the arsenal than what was demonstrated vs. Springfield. From what I was told Springfield is very young. I expected Campbell to handle them up front. Like soup said, there were only a couple of flashes of physical intensity. That has to change by next week. It definitely has to change for what lies ahead in week one and beyond. The sophomore class is loaded. And they proved that they are going to be a team to be reckoned with when they get their opportunities. Campbell did play without Sean Burnett who had his wisdom teeth extracted earlier this week. Niles McKinley should be a much better test than Springfield. That scrimmage is THURSDAY evening at 7. I got confirmation from one of our coaches.
